Kandy is a prominent city in Sri Lanka’s Central Province, known as the last capital of the ancient kings’ era. Nestled amidst hills on the Kandy plateau, it is surrounded by tropical plantations, primarily tea. Kandy serves as both an administrative and religious hub and is the capital of the Central Province. It is home to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most revered Buddhist worship sites globally, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.

Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is situated within the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy and houses the Buddha’s tooth relic.

Kandy Lake - Pass By: Kandy Lake, Center of Kandy City
Kandy Lake, also called Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Constructed in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth, it has been reduced in size over time. Fishing is prohibited in this protected lake.

Royal Botanical Gardens - The Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya are located about 5.5 km west of Kandy in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. Attracting 2 million visitors annually, it is near the Mahaweli River and is famous for its orchid collection.

Kandy View Point - Ascend the hill by Kandy Lake to reach Kandy View Point for an unparalleled view of the city. This popular tourist spot attracts many vendors, though their items are often of low quality. The area is also known for pickpocketing, so visitors should be vigilant. From the hill, enjoy stunning views over the lake and city.

Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - The Kandy cultural show in Sri Lanka, a nation rich in culture and tradition, offers a vibrant and unique display of traditional dances. The show features “Salupliya,” depicting various demons, “Thelme,” showcasing low country rhythms, and Fire and Harvest dances accompanied by ceremonial drums and a drum orchestra. The Kandy Lake Club dance troupe performs up to 12 different folk and traditional dances within an hour.

KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA

Seetha Amman Kovil - After breakfast, depart for Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya, known as the City of Lights, is a resort city in Sri Lanka’s Central Mountain range. At an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft), it is a key location for tea production in Sri Lanka. Overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya is renowned for its cool, temperate climate—the coolest in Sri Lanka.

Hakgala Botanic Gardens - Stop At: Hakgala Botanic Garden
Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, alongside Peradeniya Botanical Garden, Henarathgoda Botanical Garden, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden, and Seetawaka Botanical Garden. It is the second-largest garden in Sri Lanka.
