Kandy serves as the capital of Sri Lanka’s central province. Recognized as a world heritage city, it holds significant cultural and historical value. Situated at an elevation of 447 meters, the city offers a delightful climate. With a history spanning over 600 years, Kandy was the last Sinhala kingdom, with King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe as its final monarch.

The British took control of the city in 1815 and governed Sri Lanka until 1948. The Kandy Esala Perahera, a vibrant festival, takes place in Kandy every July or August. This spectacular event features whip crackers, dancers, elephants, and drummers, making it a must-see festival in Sri Lanka, adding further charm to the city.

Sri Dalada Museum - Begin your Kandy city tour with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa). This site holds great significance for Buddhists as it houses the left canine tooth of Lord Buddha. The Temple of the Tooth Relic is also a UNESCO world heritage site in Sri Lanka.

Kandy Lake - Next, explore Kandy Lake, located near the Tooth Relic Temple. Locals refer to this lake as “Kiri Muhuda.” It’s an excellent spot for a leisurely stroll and a brief relaxation. The lake is believed to have been constructed by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1807.

Kandy View Point - Following Kandy Lake, visit Kandy View Point. This is a wonderful location to observe Kandy City, situated just a few meters from the lake. Kandy View Point is a must-include in any Kandy tour itinerary.

Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue - Your next stop is Bahirawakanda Temple, home to a giant Buddha statue that attracts many visitors. Also known as “Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya,” this impressive statue stands 25 meters tall and can be climbed for a panoramic view of Kandy.

National Museum Kandy - The National Gem and Gemological Museum is the next destination on your tour. Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - In the evening, enjoy the Kandy Cultural Dance Show organized by the Kandy Lake Club. This event features traditional dances, some of which are also performed at the Kandy Esala Perahera festival. Witnessing these dances outside the festival is a special treat.

Day 3: Kandy to Ella via Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya - Depart for Nuwara Eliya early in the morning. En route, visit a picturesque tea factory, tea garden, and waterfall. In Nuwara Eliya city, explore the Nuwara Eliya post office and other notable sites. Then, proceed to Nanu Oya railway station for an unforgettable train journey to Ella City, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Ella City Tour

Ella - Start the day by climbing Ella Little Adams Peak, followed by a visit to Nine Arch Bridge. Afterward, travel to Arugambay, stopping at Ravana Falls along the way. Spend the night at a beachside hotel in Arugambay.

Day 5: Arugambay
