Interesting history - We enjoyed all the history. It was sad but also interesting. It was a long day but it was worth it. Our guide was a very kind man and very knowledgeable about the events. The long tail boat was fun, we saw a lot of monitors and water buffalo. Lunch was good. Plenty of food. The train ride was very nice we enjoyed going through the countryside. We were able to shop at a little market that was right off the river Kwai bridge. I recommend this to all the history buffs out there.

Respectful, humbling experience. A must do tour. - Our guide, Kiat with 30 years experience on this tour, we were so lucky to have had the pleasure in being paired with our guide. Friendly, professional, so happy, Kiat explained every detail to us on the way as we stared the tour. We were looked after so well. The tour was a sad and humbling experience about the POW’s, history on WW2, the life and unfortunate death of the POW’s making of the Burma railway. Included in our tour was a long tail boat ride, train ticket for travel on the bridge on the River Kwai, local buffet lunch. Extra details were given about the surrounding areas, agriculture and the local people. We really had a great day. Our driver, Amnat took us in an air conditioned van through out the tour and waited for us to return after certain activities. Highly recommended. A++ Thank you, from Australia!

Very worthwhile for adults with an interest in history - We were happy to have chosen the private tour which means less time is spent picking others up around Bangkok and we could get an early start out of Bangkok. Our hotel Anantara riverside wasn’t listed but the tour happily picked us up from there and provided each of us with bottled water (the hotel supplied a pre arranged breakfast box) . Had a great run on fantastic roads to the Kanchanaburi war cemetery with plenty of time to walk about. Onwards to the museum which is basically presented (take some toilet paper) but provides enough detail and pictures to get the idea. Then onto a long tail speed boat for a fast ride down the river and to the railway location. Markets surrounds the train stop area where you can buy mass produced clothing and refreshments. You can walk the bridge until train time and our travel company had saved a rear carriage for seating and more bottled water with sponge cake roll. Ticket collectors do roam the train so my advice is don’t try to do the trip with booking… The train trip goes roughly for an hour (rural views) and arrive at your lunch destination for a buffet meal. Drinks are extra. More markets are here too, but generally selling the same clothing as back at the pick up location. You need a good basic level of fitness and be able to get up from a low sitting position (like getting up off the floor) in the boat relatively unassisted to enjoy this trip. Plenty of room to roll over on your knees to stand if that is what it takes… I did! Highly recommended. It’s off season here (June 2025) but extremely warm/sweaty. Try not to bring too many or heavy bags, my smallish backpack worked well.

Very worthwhile emotional journey of remembrance. - We booked this tour as a private party of 3. I would definitely recommend this as the journey time from Bangkok was 2.5 hours there and 3.5 hours back, so it would be much longer with further drops offs/pick ups. The mini bus was amazing with reclining seats meaning we could sleep on the way back, it’s a very long day. Our tour guide was fabulous, giving us lots of information but also giving us the time to look at sites of interest. We never felt rushed. The tour was fabulous from start to finish. The cemetery was quite emotional to see, especially the young ages on the memorial stones. We had a visit to the museum which was good, then a long boat ride along the river Kwai to the bridge which was amazing. The river Kwai bridge, again was emotional to see thinking of those who suffered in constructing the original. We then had a train journey along the railway line for 1.25 hours, then stopped for lunch at a most beautiful site with amazing views. The lunch was fabulous. We really had a most amazing day.

This was supposed to be an important part of my Bangkok trip. Unfortunately it fell very short - We went to all the sights but, the guide knew very little about the Thai Burma Railway & prisoner of war camps from the perspective of the 2nd WW. All he could really explain was that the railway was built between Burma & Thailand & who had paid for it (ie the Japanese). Nothing about the forced local labour & the POW medics who had looked agter them in the 'coolie camps'. For an Australian paying respects to those who gave the uktimate sacrifice, the private tour fell a long way short.

Disappointed! - The guide wasn't very knowledgeable and the museum was really disappointing. Would love to have heard more about the true experiences of those there.

Great option for older, less mobilr travellers - This is definitely one for the more mobile people. We were taken to the memorial, and then the Jeath museum, but then they take you in a boat to the Bridge. As an older couple, we were not able to get into the boat due to it being so the van drove us to Bridge. Getting onto the train was quite a step up, but we managed to get on and off. It was definitely worth the effort to be able to see what these amazing men achieve under unbelievable circumstances
