A lot to see in Kanazawa...! - We will have to make a return trip to Kanazawa – there wasn’t enough time to take in all it has to offer in just 5 or 6 hours. Kanazawa Castle and the adjacent Kenroku-en Gardens are a magnet during cherry blossom season, for good reason. Despite the crowds, this was a wonderful tour. Our guide, Shoten (“Sho”) Sasaki worked closely with us to develop the itinerary and led an excellent tour. The Higashi Chaya-gai district gives one a good feel for the days when Geisha entertained in local “tea” rooms – the buildings are lovingly preserved, although most are now shops and eateries (where you can sample ice-cream cones dipped in gold leaf). We’re sorry we ran out of time before seeing Nagayamachi Bukeyashiki (the samurai district) – next time! A great place to visit.

Private full day tour of Kanazawa - We were very fortunate to have Shoten Sasaki as our guide in Kanazawa. We let him know before we arrived what we were interested in and he organised a great day for us including booking a fabulous place for lunch where locals eat and if Sho hadn’t booked we would have missed out! He showed us a variety of historical and cultural sights and we especially enjoyed the local markets. Sho is very knowledgeable and we felt we really got to know the best of Kanazawa on our full day private tour with a local.

Wonderful Kanazawa - Asa was a wonderful guide. She planned the whole day out - tea ceremony, market visit, lunch then temple and museum in the afternoon. Also was a great help with bus tickets and transit around town to save out legs!

A once in a lifetime experience in Kanazawa - We are a family of 4 (daughters 6 and 9) who visited Kanazawa for a day as a cruise ship port in April 2025. The ship was at port from 7 am to 5 pm (return to ship at 4:30). We booked this tour — which was much more inexpensive than the ship — and we quickly were given the contact info of our guide, Yoshi. I reached out on WhatsApp and he responded quickly. He gave us several options and we let him know what our preferences were — the Kanazawa castle and gardens, the Higashi Chaya-gai Geisha district, and the Nagamachi samurai district. He figured out all the logistics. We took the ship’s shuttle to Kanazawa central bus station where we met Yoshi at 9 am. He helped us get a day pass on the local buses which are very efficient. The first stop was the Geisha district. There were no geishas in the morning but the district architecture was very beautiful and traditional, and we had a chance to visit a geisha tea house. There are also a lot of local artisan shops and a gold leaf studio where you can book your own gold leaf art experience. Next was the castle and gardens which were spectacular especially because it was cherry blossom season. Yoshi I’ve so the best places to go for picture taking and exploration. He’s also a great photographer and knows everything about Japanese history. Finally was the samurai district with its dead end streets and historical architecture. We visited one of the Santiago homes that had been preserved. It was do impressive. I highly recommend this tour and Yoshi in particulsr. This is a private tour for a great price so you fan see what you want at your own pace, which is perfect especially if you have kids.

Wonderful!!! - We loved our time with Masayo! Thank you for a wonderful tour. Jason and I learned so much and enjoyed every minute. We will definitely recommend her to our loved ones who would like to visit Kanazawa. It is such a beautiful city! We are looking forward to dinner at her sushi restaurant tonight! Thank you for the recommendation. Just so you know - we went to Huni restaurant for dinner last night and it was fantastic. Chef Takuo is an amazing cook and he is an artist, too! Please recommend it to your travelers.

Great way to see Kanazawa! - My guide, Shoten, was great. He contacted me in advance of my arrival to introduce himself and see if there were any particular sights or interests I was interested to see/do. I explained that I was interested in local handicrafts and architecture, he then prepared a personalized itinerary of Kanazawa. He was most informative and made it very easy to cover many sights that I could not do on my own. He even found an excellent restaurant to try Kanazawa's famous oden which fit right into the planned schedule. Highly recommended!
