- Shirayama Hime Shrine - The tour will reach the historic entrance of the shrine, where a brief walk along a tranquil path leads to the entrance. Shirayama Hime Shrine is among Japan’s oldest, serving as a site for worshipping Mt. Haku for approximately 2100 years.
The shrine is renowned for its sacred water, blessings for couples, and its role as the starting point of the historic pilgrimage to the mountaintop, which began nearly 1300 years ago.
In addition to the Shinto goddess of marriage, the ancestral gods Izanagi and Izanami are also enshrined here, offering visitors the opportunity to pray or collect a goshuin as a memento of their visit.
- Tedori Gorge - After leaving the shrine, a brief detour will take us to Tedori Gorge, an 8km stretch formed over 23 million years ago. There are two vantage points to admire this scenic area: those who descend the 120 steps to the riverside can view the waterfall up close, while others can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Haku rising above the river.
- Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road - The main highlight of the day is the White Road. Boarding the bus, we’ll embark on a journey through the mountains. As we ascend, the rice paddies will give way to winding mountain roads. Keep an eye out for snow monkeys, especially after heavy rain.
We will pause at one of three larger rest areas, equipped with seating, for a lunch break. Afterward, you are welcome to explore the area. Please exercise caution, as the road is narrow in places and there may be traffic.
- Shirakawago - After soaking in the beauty, we’ll proceed to Shirakawa-Go. This village, with its thatched roofs, has stood for over 300 years and was a vital hub for travelers between Kanazawa, Nagoya, Takayama, and Toyama. The gassho farmhouses are striking against the natural scenery. We’ll begin at the end of the main street and stroll through the historic alleys, appreciating the history and views. There will be time to visit a small museum and enjoy some free time in the town to explore, shop for souvenirs, and sample local delicacies.
