1 Day Ziwa Rhino Tracking
East African Jungle Safaris offers day excursion trips to tourist destinations in Kampala and nearby towns. These day trips are designed for tourists and business travelers who cannot commit to longer tours, providing them with an opportunity to explore select areas of interest. One of the attractions available for a one-day trip is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Participants will start their day early with a cup of tea, and at precisely 7:00 am, a company driver/guide will meet them to provide a briefing on the day’s travel itinerary. The journey will then commence with a 2.5-hour drive towards the northern part of the country, passing through the districts of Kampala and Luweero, until reaching Nakasongola district, the proud location of the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Located 176 km north of Kampala off the Kampala – Gulu highway, this project was initiated by the Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority to reintroduce Black and White Rhinos into Uganda’s National Parks. The sanctuary was established to breed black and white rhinos and eventually restore their populations in Uganda’s protected areas. Currently, it is home to 13 Southern white Rhinos. Over time, the sanctuary has become a popular tourist destination, not only for trekking these majestic animals but also as an excellent spot for bird watching, nature walks, and relaxation.
Rhino tracking takes approximately 2 hours, guided by well-trained and knowledgeable local guides. After this remarkable experience, participants will enjoy a delightful lunch and refreshments at a restaurant, followed by a drive back to their hotel in Kampala, arriving late in the evening. They will be dropped off at their hotel, marking the conclusion of this 1-day Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary tour.
