A Kenya highlight - I wondered whether it would be fun to do this trip on my own but it was so worth it! I got clear communication in advance. James the driver was good company and made me feel totally comfortable. The park was amazing and despite having been on several day safaris I'd never seen so many animals including a group of lions hunting together. It is a long drive either way but well worth it.

Great tour, expert guide - I had the most amazing time at the safari to Amboseli with the guide and driver Festus Kazungu. He was on time to pick me up, made the journey as comfortable as possible and attended to all my needs. He's knowledgeable about the park and the animals. I saw many animals at the park thanks to his expert navigation. I really wanted to see Mt Kilimanjaro but it was too cloudy, but he managed to point out bits of the mountain among the breaks in the cloud for me. Very dedicated. Highly recommended!

Great trip, lots of elephants! - Our guide and driver, Samuel was super knowledgeable about all birds and animals in the park. He was happy to answer all our questions and making sure we were enjoying ourselves. This tour takes a full day (for us it was 5AM - 8PM) in which you cover a lot of the Amboseli grounds. As this is an open national park (no fence) there is no guarantee that animals will be there. It seemed like there were more zebras outside of the park on the roadside than inside the park. Nevertheless we saw most of the big animals including several herds of elephants, a hyena, Maasai giraffe and hippos. Although it wasn’t a problem for us, I want to point out that the van that’s used is very spacious but not great for shock absorption. People with back problems will do better booking a tour with one of the big jeeps.

Wilderness serenity - This was a day trip to remember! We traveled to Oloitokitok for business and decided to detour into Amboseli National Park on our way back to Nairobi. Right after entering the park, we were greeted by a herd of elephants, followed by sightings of zebras, giraffes, warthogs, wildebeests, and many other animals along the way. The majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro stood imposingly in the background, occasionally revealing its stunning snow-capped peak. Each time the driver turned off the engine, an indescribable sense of peace and serenity washed over me. Amboseli is an incredible destination, but it truly deserves more time to fully appreciate the beauty and richness of wildlife spread across its vast plains. I've been here several times, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Our wild experience - One of our main trip highlights was in Amboseli national park in Kenya . Having driven from Mombasa , and enjoying the beautiful amazing scenery along the way we arrived abit late to get into the park but we still managed to see a few elephants , some giraffes , buffalo's, zebras n gazelles and we had the view of the magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro. We enjoyed our trip as a family and the kids loved it too .

WORST SAFARI EVER: unsafe vehicles; don’t book! - From start to finish this was a terrible trip. After many years of using visitor tours and being satisfied, I can tell you that this was the absolute worst Viator-related experience I’ve ever had. We booked a day tour to Amboseli Park for a Safari with Akoth Safari. The vehicle we were in broke down only four hours into the tour and we had not reached the park yet. The vehicle was old, had no seatbelts, was dirty, and it was no surprise to me that it broke down on the side of the road. It’s not the one advertised that I have added to pictures. After waiting for 45 to 60 minutes , another vehicle from another company came to pick us up, but only after prodding and pushing from my angle. The new driver from a company I still don’t know whom he belonged to, did not establish a rapport with us, and I don’t blame him because he appeared to be just as bewildered as we were as to what was supposed to happen and how we were supposed to get back. We saw very few animals and the driver, although nice enough, was on his phone the whole time I believe trying to figure out what the plan was to get us back. At the end of the Safari tour, we were brought back to a small village (see picture) where we reunited with our original driver and then we again waited for 35 to 45 minutes for another vehicle to pick us up. We were left alone - my wife and I - unattended in a small village. The driver disappeared, but I’m sure he was within a short distance. We were finally summoned to Board a Taxi for the (see colorful vehicle in picture) which was super dirty and unacceptable (as far as the original contract vehicle that we were supposed to have). Note; these vehicles are not recommended for tourists by the US Embassy, although the vehicle appeared to be only for our use. We were dropped off two hours late so our plans for Friday night were tanked. What was very frustrating was that besides the taxi driver going at an insane speed and being unsafe weaving in and out of traffic, the original Tour Guide and driver kept laughing and saying “This is Africa.” This was also $600 plus. Needless to say we were not pleased. It would’ve been one thing if the owner of the company or the manager had called us that day or the day after even to express his apologies. However, it took much prompting from me to get his email from the company to explain to him that we were not satisfied. That we wished to reach a settlement or at least some kind of reimbursement. Eventually he came up on the net and weakly apologized, which I accepted, and offered a free ride to the airport or a lunch ($50). However, we had already left Kenya am- after much back-and-forth. I finally told him that if he was not willing to reach settlement of any means, then I would just have to pursue reimbursement by some other means with my credit card company. This was absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had through a Viator tour. I do not recommend this company whatsoever. I find that their communications throughout the whole ordeal was unacceptable and almost nonexistent. If it had been for Susan, the contact person who I was dealing with throughout, we would’ve not had any idea what was happening along the way, so kudos to her. But for Mr. Mumba, the director or manager or owner of the company (he was pleasant enough) he only came up on correspondence after four days and would not talk on phone even though I asked if we could talk by phone. He refused to offer any reimbursement, and anything else except for an apology. The world moves on…however, I would recommend if you were doing a Safari in Africa and Kenya specifically do not use this company because you will not move anywhere. Akoth Safari it is called.
