Karakus Tumulus - Named after the eagle statue at its entrance, this monumental tomb was constructed for the female members of the Commagene Kingdom. The mausoleum, adorned with statues of eagles, lions, and bulls on three columns, showcases the rich cultural and religious heritage of the Commagene Kingdom.
Cendere Bridge - Also known as the Septimus Severus Bridge, this 120-meter-long structure is fascinating due to its construction without mortar. It is one of the few remaining bridges from the Roman era.
Arsemia Ancient City - Arsameia, the summer capital of the Commagene Kingdom, is a stunning historical site featuring two tunnels and statues, albeit in ruins. The secrets of the Commagene civilization have been unveiled through inscriptions found and translated here. The history of Commagene is inscribed in Greek, and as one ascends, there is a relief depicting Mithradathes Kalinikos, the founder of the Kingdom of Commagene, shaking hands with Hercules. There are two caves; one, carved by human hands, is 158 meters long with two rooms at the end accessed by stairs. This is the burial site of Antiochos’ father. The other cave is a large cube-shaped room with a crown-covered entrance, though little is known about it.
Mount Nemrut - Witness the awe-inspiring view of Mount Nemrut at sunset! The tomb of King Antiochus I of Commagene, located on the slopes of Mount Nemrut at an altitude of 2150 meters in Adıyaman’s Kahta District, was built to honor the gods and his ancestors. It stands as one of the most remarkable ruins of the Hellenistic Period, with its monumental sculptures and breathtaking views. The sculptures are distributed across the eastern, western, and northern terraces. The eastern terrace is the sacred center, housing the most significant sculptures and architectural remains. The well-preserved giant statues, made of limestone blocks, stand 8-10 meters tall. Although the tomb’s existence is known, it has yet to be discovered.
