- Subashiri Route - A shuttle bus transports visitors into the highlands surrounding Mt. Fuji. The journey to Subashiri 5th Station gradually ascends, providing scenic views of forests and, on clear days, the majestic peak of Mt. Fuji. The crisp mountain air and tranquil setting signal the start of an exciting hiking adventure. This is the starting point for the hike. Subashiri 5th Station is renowned for its less crowded and more natural environment compared to the more popular Yoshida Trail. It offers restroom facilities, trail signage, and a serene atmosphere beneath the towering trees of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. This station serves as the entry to the Subashiri Trail, known for its gentle incline and lush alpine forest.
- Subashiri Trail - The hike ascends through an enchanting larch forest, gradually transitioning to volcanic terrain as hikers climb above the treeline. This section involves around 900 meters of elevation gain and takes approximately 2–3 hours. Along the way, hikers will encounter striking rock formations, moss-covered trees, and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and, on clear days, the Pacific Ocean. The tranquility and fresh mountain air make the ascent incredibly rewarding.
- Trail Down Mountain・Sunabashiri - Upon reaching the 7th Station, hikers will be nearly 3,000 meters above sea level. This high-altitude rest point offers magnificent views of the landscape below and the remaining peaks above. Although not the summit, this station provides a sense of accomplishment, with fewer hikers and a genuine wilderness feel. It’s an ideal spot for rest, snacks, and memorable photos before the descent. As the descent begins, hikers will enter the unique Sunabashiri zone, where fine volcanic sand allows for a light, springy descent—a fun and rare feature exclusive to the Subashiri Trail. This section is often referred to as the “sand run” due to the natural cushioning that makes going downhill easier and quicker.
- Komitake Shrine - Near the end of the descent, hikers will pass Komitake Shrine, a quiet, spiritual stop nestled on the mountainside. The shrine is dedicated to mountain spirits and offers a peaceful resting place. It also marks a transition point from the higher alpine terrain back into the forested areas near the 5th Station.
