1. Instructor Introduction & Program Overview (10 min)
   Gain insights into Japan’s rolled sushi culture and the history of decorative sushi rolls (deco-maki).

2. Live Demonstration (15 min)
   Observe a live demonstration by the instructor on crafting a decorative sushi roll.

3. Create Your Own! (45–60 min)
   Utilize pre-prepared ingredients to craft your own decorative sushi roll. Participants can select from designs like characters or floral patterns.

4. Photo Session & Tasting (20 min)
   Capture photos of your completed sushi and savor it immediately. Takeout options are available.

5. Certificate Presentation (Optional)
   Receive a certificate of completion as a keepsake of your experience.

Please note, an interpreter guide is not provided. The instructor will communicate through gestures and demonstrations during the session.

What is Deco-maki Sushi?
Deco-maki sushi is a variety of Japanese rolled sushi (maki sushi) known for the intricate images and characters that appear in its cross-section.

Visual Appeal and Fun
The main attraction of deco-maki is its stunning visual appeal and the thrill it offers before consumption. The design remains a mystery until the sushi is sliced, creating a “fukuwarai”-like experience (a traditional Japanese game akin to pin the tail on the donkey) that adds an element of surprise and enjoyment.

Unique Creation Method and Diverse Arrangements
Deco-maki transcends typical cooking with its distinctive creation process. It involves assembling parts made from colored sushi rice and various ingredients such as scrambled eggs, crab sticks, sausages, and cheese. These elements are carefully arranged so that the design appears on the cross-section, similar to “kintaro-ame” (a traditional Japanese candy with a design that is visible no matter where it’s cut).
