Dunhuang Airport - Today, the guide will meet travelers at the Dunhuang hotel, airport, or train station and then transfer them to Crescent Lake, which is a 40-minute drive, covering 20KM.
Crescent Moon Pool - The enchanting Crescent Lake, named for its crescent moon shape formed by a small spring water pool nestled between two large sand dunes. Visitors can slide down the Sounding Sand Dunes to see if they can hear the unique sounds from the dunes. Known globally as “the first spring in the desert,” the formation of this geological wonder remains a mystery. Visiting Crescent Lake, which has been nestled in the vast desert for thousands of years with its clear, sweet water, is a remarkable experience.
Mingsha Shan - Echoing-Sand Mountain - Next, visit the Singing Sand Mountains (Mingsha Mountain) where visitors can enjoy sand surfing and camel riding (at their own expense). Mingsha Mountain stretches from the Mogao Caves in the east, spanning 40 kilometers from east to west, and 20 kilometers from south to north.
Shazhou Nightly Market - After checking into the hotel and taking a short break, visitors can explore the Shazhou Night Market and enjoy dinner there.
The Dunhuang Shazhou Night Market is the largest night market in the city, offering a wonderful opportunity for an evening stroll and souvenir shopping.
The Night Market represents Dunhuang nightlife and is considered a “nightlife landscape.” It is highly popular among tourists worldwide for its unique local specialties and rich local culture.
Dunhuang - Finally, the guide will escort visitors back to their hotel.
Dunhuang. O/N Dunhuang
Dunhuang - The guide will pick up visitors at the hotel lobby around 09:00 in the morning and escort them to the renowned Mogao Grottoes, a 30-minute ride away.
Mogao Caves - The Mogao Grottoes, constructed over a millennium from the 4th to 14th centuries, are also known as the Thousand Buddha Caves. They are distinguished as one of China’s most notable grottoes and the best-preserved treasure house of Buddhist art, sutras, murals, and sculptures in the world.
Yumen Pass - After lunch, visitors will drive to Yumenguan Pass, located about 110kms from Dunhuang city. “Yumenguan” means Jade Pass in Chinese, and it is said that jade from the Western region was transported into central China only through this pass. It served as the gateway to the western region on the northern Silk Road and was a significant military strategic pass and passage of the ancient Silk Road.
Great Wall of Han Dynasty - The tour continues to the Great Wall of the Han Dynasty (206 BC to 220 BC). Unlike other sections made of brick and stone, this part is constructed from rammed earth, gravel, and juniper. Although nature and humans have damaged it over time, visitors can still see how the wall originally appeared.
Next, continue to River Storage City, an important military storage city that played a crucial role on the ancient Silk Road from the Weijin to Han Dynasty. It is designed to be well-concealed and is well-preserved.
Dunhuang - Finally, the guide will escort visitors back to their hotel.
Dunhuang - Guazhou - Dunhuang. O/N Dunhuang.
Dunhuang - The guide will pick up visitors at the hotel lobby around 09:00 in the morning and escort them to the renowned Yulin Grottoes, a 120-minute ride, 165km away.
Yulin Grotto - The Yulin Grottoes, featuring 272 colored clay sculptures and 5650 square meters of murals, are famous as twin grottoes with the Mogao Grottoes due to their similar art style and date. Forty-three grottoes are scattered on the east and west cliffs, and six are open to visitors. The Yulin River Valley offers a fantastic view.
Suoyang City Ruins - After lunch in Guazhou, visitors will drive to Suoyang Ancient City, a complex of ancient city ruins, ancient river courses, temples, tombs, and irrigation systems. It played a significant role in the economy, military, and culture along the ancient Hexi Corridor, especially the ancient military defensive and beacon tower information transferring system, which is the best-preserved and typical model in China. Although not a very touristy area, it is worth visiting.
Dunhuang - Finally, the guide will escort visitors back to their hotel.
Dunhuang Departure. The tour ends.
