Day 1: Discover the Mursi and Hamar Tribes – A Fascinating Cultural Experience in the Omo Valley

Jinka - Jinka – Turmi – HAMAR TRIBE (overnight camping with the tribe)
Upon arrival at Jinka airport, embark on an excursion to a Mursi village, located approximately 66 km from Jinka in the Mago National Park. Here, you will have the opportunity to meet the Mursi people, famous for their large lip and ear lobe plates. Mursi men traditionally consume more blood than meat, as they can harvest blood from their cows without harming them. They make a small incision in the cow’s vein with an arrow and use traditional medicine to quickly heal the wound. You may witness a Mursi man having breakfast from his own cow. If a donga fight is taking place, you might also see the traditional stick fighting. After lunch in Jinka, travel to visit the Hamar people, known for their body scarification, clay-formed hairstyles, and the unique “bull-jumping” ceremony that young men must complete before marriage.

Day 2: Explore the Karo, Nyangatom, and Dassanech Tribes – A Cultural Journey in the Omo Valley

Omo Valley Ethiopia Tours with Local - After breakfast, take a 1 hour and 40-minute drive to visit the Karo Korcho, another Omo Valley tribe settled along the Omo River. The Karo people are agro-pastoralists and are considered masters of body painting. Next, drive 1 hour and 30 minutes to Nyangatom to visit the Bumé Nyangatom people, known for their body bead decorations and scarification. After lunch, attend the largest Omo Valley tribes market in the Turmi Hamar tribe village. Following the market, drive 1.5 hours to Omo Rate, located east of the Omo River near Lake Turkana. Cross the Omo River using traditional Dassanech boats made from large fig trees and take a 20-minute walk to the Dassanech tribal village. The Dassanech people are also renowned for their body painting and scarification.

Day 3: Visit the Arbore Tribe & Afternoon Airport Drop-Off – A Perfect Farewell to the Omo Valley

Turmi - After an early morning breakfast, embark on an excursion to the Arbore Tribe via the Turmi Market. The Arbore people are known for their distinctive and elaborate tribal jewelry and necklaces, making them one of the most visually striking communities in the Omo Valley. During the visit, there will be an opportunity to learn about their unique culture, traditions, and beliefs, and meet some of the most captivating members of the tribe.

After lunch, continue the journey to Jinka Airport for the scheduled afternoon flight to Addis Ababa. A timely drop-off will be ensured, allowing for a relaxing continuation of your travels.
