Jeju haenyeo formed a merit-based community and made democratic decisions through discussions. They cared for the elderly and infirm, such as Halmang Badang and Geseok, and used their earnings to contribute to society, including villages and schools.
They also devised various methods to coexist with the sea, such as beach sweeping, gold snatching, and dialysis.
