Jozani Forest has several habitats including swamp forest, evergreen thickets, mangroves, as well as a variety of wildlife, including sykes and red colobus monkeys, bush pigs, Ader’s duiker and suni antelopes, elephant shrews, chameleons and lots of birdlife.

The Jozani Forest, situated in the east-central region of Zanzibar Island, is the exclusive habitat of the rare Red Colobus Monkey, which exists only in Zanzibar. Unlike their prevalent and adaptable kin, the Black and White Colobus, the Red Colobus are an equatorial forest species now found in very limited areas of tropical forest throughout Africa….
The Jozani Forest, situated in the east-central region of Zanzibar Island, is the exclusive habitat of the rare Red Colobus Monkey, which exists only in Zanzibar. Unlike their prevalent and adaptable kin, the Black and White Colobus, the Red Colobus are an equatorial forest species now found in very limited areas of tropical forest throughout Africa. Thus, spotting them in Zanzibar is indeed a unique privilege.
The preserve further hosts a vast mangrove swamp and a segment of native forest that is the dwelling place of several distinctive species including the Sykes monkey, bush babies, duikers, hyraxes, and over 50 varieties of butterfly and 40 species of birds.
