1. Bogor Botanical Garden

Kebun Raya Bogor initially formed part of a ‘samida’ (artificial forest or garden) that existed during the reign of Sri Baduga Maharaja (Prabu Siliwangi, 1474-1513) of the Sunda Kingdom, as mentioned in the Batutulis inscription. This artificial forest was intended to preserve the environment and maintain rare tree seeds. Another similar samida was created at the border of Cianjur and Bogor (Ciung Wanara Forest). This forest was left unattended after the Sunda Kingdom fell to the Sultanate of Banten, until Governor-General van der Capellen built a rest house in one corner of it in the mid-18th century.

In the early 1800s, Governor-General Thomas Stamford Raffles, who resided in the Bogor Palace and had a keen interest in botany, was inspired to transform the palace grounds into a beautiful garden. With the assistance of botanists, including W. Kent, who helped develop Kew Gardens in London, Raffles transformed the palace grounds into a classic English-style garden. This marked the beginning of the Bogor Botanical Garden as it is known today.

2. Zoological Museum

The Zoological Museum, located in Bogor, houses collections related to the animal world, including various preserved specimens and animal fossils. The museum is divided into two sections: one is open daily to the public and features an exhibition room located at Jalan Ir. H. Juanda No. 9 Bogor, while the other serves as a collection site and is open to the public once a year in October, located at the Science Center in Cibinong, precisely at Jalan Raya Jakarta - Bogor Km.46 Cibinong, Bogor. Both parts of the museum are managed by the Zoology Division of the Biological Research Center-LIPI. The Bogor Zoological Museum originally started as a zoological laboratory named Landbouw Zoologisch Laboratorium, established in 1894 by J. C. Koningsberger, a Dutch botanist, as a research facility related to agriculture and zoology. In 1906, its name changed to Zoologisch Museum and Wekplaats, and in 1910, it became Zoologisch Museum en Laboratorium. Between 1945-1947, it was known as Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense, and it is now called the Bogor Zoological Museum. The museum’s collection site, which has 24 collection rooms, was occupied in 1997, funded by grants from the World Bank and Japan. The museum’s scientific collections include categories such as mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians, mollusks, insects, and other invertebrates that are not mollusks or insects.
