A popular hike is to the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook, Fairy Falls, and Imperial Geyser in the Midway Geyser Basin. This relatively flat 6.7-mile round-trip hike includes a picnic by Imperial Geyser. This hike is favored for showcasing Yellowstone’s unique geothermal features and allows time to visit the Old Faithful geyser, located just 5 miles from the trailhead.
Entry to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks is not included in the tour. The most cost-effective option is to purchase an “America the Beautiful” annual pass ($80), granting access to all parks and monuments. Once inside the park, all activities are free.
- Grand Prismatic Spring - A popular hiking option includes Fairy Falls and Imperial Geyser, with a small climb to the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook. This vantage point avoids crowds and offers a comprehensive view of the spring.
- Fairy Falls - Fairy Falls (200ft) is located on the trail to Imperial Geyser. It is a beautiful destination on its own, with a 4.8-mile round trip if you choose not to continue. The additional 1-mile hike to Imperial Geyser from Fairy Falls is highly recommended. While waterfalls can be found elsewhere, a backcountry geyser is a uniquely Yellowstone experience.
- Old Faithful - Depending on the chosen hike, there will be time to stop at Old Faithful to witness its eruption, which typically occurs every 90 minutes.
- Grand Teton - The drive to Yellowstone passes through Grand Teton National Park, offering opportunities to capture the iconic sunrise over the Tetons and observe any wildlife encountered.
