Highlights
  • Via Massaua, 158 - Tuscany, particularly the countryside nestled between the medieval villages of San Miniato and Montaione, is renowned for its truffles. This region is known for harvesting three prized truffle species: the Bianchetto truffle in spring, the black truffle in summer, and the white truffle in autumn. The unique climate, soil composition, and natural preservation make the hills of San Miniato a premier truffle harvesting site globally, celebrated for both the quantity and quality of its truffles.

Join Leonardo and his charming Lagotti Romagnoli dogs, Aki and Roi, as they lead you through hidden forest paths in search of these earthly treasures. Discover the fascinating world of truffles, much of which remains a mystery even to scientists: learn how truffles grow and develop, why they thrive in specific areas and seasons, and what gives them their distinctive aroma. After the hunt, enjoy a tasting of truffle-based products and learn about the various culinary uses of truffles.

What's Included
  • Tour in the woods in search of truffles with dogs for 1-1.5 hours
  • Snacks
Meal Options
  • Tasting of white truffle products - Pecorino with truffle, white truffle honey, white truffle oil and butter, parmesan and white truffle cream, and much more
Additional Information

The pristine environment, the bond with my beloved dogs, and the forest’s quiet, broken only by birdsong. All of this frames the discovery of one of Tuscany’s oldest and most secretive professions: truffle hunting. Because of its subterranean nature, fragility, and significant economic value, the truffle has always captivated humans, holding a prominent place in Tuscan culture and cuisine. To avoid detection and beat others to the find, truffle hunters often search at night. It was no coincidence that in the Corazzano valleys, one night in 1954, the world’s largest truffle was discovered, weighing 2520 grams. During the truffle hunting experience, we will traverse paths where truffles naturally grow. All the secrets about truffles, the symbiotic plants, and dog training will be revealed; and if we’re fortunate, we might even find some lovely truffles.

  • Please bring boots, hiking shoes, sports clothing and bug spray

This is an absolute must in Tuscany!! Truffle Hunting at its best. - What a highlight for our European adventure. Truffle Hunting!! This is an absolute must with kids when in the area. Our 7 year old loved it, 3 year old got a bit overwhelmed at the end walking heaps. But all of us still talk about how much fun it was! Finding the truffles is so cool, and trying them at the end is fabulous! Thank you again! We can not recommend this enough!! We will do it again next Tuscany trip!

3 Truffles and a beautiful morning outdoors accompanied by a great cicero! - Fun and interesting experience.. nice to spend time outdoors looking for black truffles.. Leonardo was an excellent guide explaining step by step the characteristics of the various types of truffle, the ability of dogs to find them and being able to convey his passion and enthusiasm for this work. In the end 3 beautiful black truffles were brought home for an exceptional pasta.. :)
