In the second millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization, a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece, Crete, the Cyclades and parts of southwest Anatolia. The period of Greek history from about 1600 BC to about 1100 BC is called Mycenaean in reference to Mycenae.

According to Homer, the city of Mycenae was founded by Perseus, the son of Danae and Zeus. By Agamemnon’s time the Royal House of Atreus was the most powerful of the Achaeans (Homer’s name for the Greeks).

It’s renowned for its amazing acoustics; a coin dropped in the theater’s center can be heard from the highest seat. The theater seats up to 14,000 people. Its entrance is flanked by restored Corinthian pilasters and the foundations of the ancient stage are beyond the circle. Great Experience - We went with Sight of Athens as the other (red bus) tour company was not only available. Also because Ms Xanthippi was helpful, approachable and open to negotiations. She explained in detail about the tours and was prompt in replying to Whatsapp message. Enjoy our tour to the Temple of Poseidon, Mycenae, Nafplion and Epidaurus. The tour guide was ready to answer all questions and knowledgeable. Additionally tablet was given explaining the attractions with graphics. Will recommend.

Totally worth it! - Great service, great sights and great fun! The private tour was not much more expensive than the „normal“ tour, and we all agreed that it was totally worth it. Our driver picked us up right at our door with a very nice car and gave us wonderful tips for lunch, dinner and other activities. The restaurant he took us to for lunch was a traditional greek place with amazing food. In November, there weren‘t many tourists in Mycaene and Epidaurus and we could experience the beautiful sights in tranquility. Two thumbs up!

Long and Beautiful !! - A well organised and well paced tour with a greatly knowledgeable and cheerful story telling guide Dafne, covering 3 great and distant attractions with lunch arranged in beautiful city of Nafplio. Not only the sights are greatly informative about Greek history, but also have immensely beautiful views. I wish to thank Dafne and the driver for about 11 hours of dedicated and hard work with us. As for travellers, do not look anywhere else or try to arrange it yourself. Just book this tour to save time, effort and even cost!! You will be glad you did it.

He gave us enough time to explore without rushing and was very friendly making us feel very comfortable and safe. After this day trip we booked another day trip and requested him as our tour guide.
