Commissioned by Sultan Ahmet I at the age of 19, the mosque’s interior is adorned with over 20,000 handmade ceramic tiles featuring more than fifty tulip designs. The tiles on the lower levels are traditionally designed, while those in the galleries are more elaborate, depicting flowers, fruits, and trees.
