- Hagia Sophia Mosque - Hagia Sophia is regarded as a unique monument in global architecture, serving as an exemplary model for the construction of numerous Ottoman mosques. With its remarkable history, Hagia Sophia represents a synthesis of Eastern and Western influences. This monument is one of the world’s wonders that has remained preserved to this day. Visitors can discover many attractions in Hagia Sophia, including fascinating forms of Byzantine architecture, Christian period mosaics, and structures added during the Ottoman era.
- Hippodrome - The Byzantine emperors cherished spending afternoons at the chariot races, and this rectangular arena next to Sultanahmet Park was their preferred venue. In its prime, it was adorned with obelisks and statues, some of which still stand today. Recently re-landscaped, it is one of the city’s most popular meeting spots and promenades.
- Blue Mosque - The Blue Mosque, known as Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish, is a historic mosque in Istanbul. It is called the Blue Mosque due to the blue tiles that adorn the interior walls. Constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the reign of Ahmed I, it includes a tomb of the founder, a madrasa, and a hospice. While still functioning as a mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has also become a popular tourist attraction in Istanbul.
- Basilica Cistern - The Basilica Cistern is one of Istanbul’s magnificent historical structures, located southwest of Hagia Sophia. This vast underground cistern, built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I (527–565), was commonly referred to as the “Yerebatan Palace” due to the marble columns rising from the water, creating the illusion of a palace. It is also known as the Basilica Cistern because a basilica once stood at the site where the cistern was constructed.
- Grand Bazaar Jewelers - The Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets globally, dates back to the 15th century. With over 4000 shops, the Grand Covered Bazaar is a regular destination for both tourists and locals.
The Grand Bazaar is Istanbul’s most significant historical shopping center, with gates opening to various areas of the Historic Peninsula. First-time visitors to the Grand Bazaar will be amazed by its grandeur and size.
- Topkapi Palace - Formerly the residence of Ottoman sultans, Topkapi Palace stands as a symbol of imperial magnificence. Visitors can explore its impressive first courtyard and admire the grand gates and architecture from the outside, with the option to visit the interior if time allows.
