Day 1: Iquitos Pick-up/Canoeing/Caiman Spotting

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Guests are collected from their Iquitos hotel to commence the tour. Please provide flight or hotel details to ensure timely pick-up. The journey begins with a drive to Nauta, where a boat will transport guests directly to the lodge. Along the way, there is a good chance to spot pink river dolphins, primarily found in the Amazon River.

After lunch, enjoy a canoe ride to explore the jungle by boat, searching for monkeys, macaws, toucans, sloths, and other wildlife. Witness the breathtaking sunset over the jungle from the boat. Later, the group will embark on a canoe trip for caiman (alligator) night spotting. The guide will share insights about the nocturnal wildlife, Amazonian nature, and introduce the different caimans (black and white caiman). Depending on the weather, enjoy a moonlit ride back to the lodge, with stars reflecting in the river—a truly remarkable experience. Return to the lodge for a home-cooked meal and a restful night’s sleep.

Day 2: Jungle Walk/Survival Skills/Pink Dolphins/Night Time Hiking.

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - After breakfast, embark on a trekking adventure through the jungle, learning to identify diverse flora and fauna. Discover medicinal plants used by locals to treat illnesses and traditional aphrodisiac drinks made from tree bark and roots.

Survival Skills: The guide will provide an experiential class on jungle survival, utilizing nature’s resources for benefit.

After lunch, relax in hammocks before heading back to the Amazon River to swim with river dolphins. A brief stop at a tributary river offers a mud treatment at a local “spa.” Roll in the mud to absorb nutrients and minerals, with additional benefits like stress relief, muscle relaxation, skin moisturization, and toxin elimination.

Conclude the day with a night walk through the jungle, searching for anacondas, tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, and giant frogs.

Day 3: Birdwatching/Piranha Fishing/Lake/Outdoor Campfire.

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - For early risers, an early canoe trip offers a chance to enjoy the sunrise before breakfast. Spot macaws, toucans, shansho, the harpy eagle, and camungo among the spectacular views. Watch in awe as flocks of birds fill the rainforest in search of food.

Prepare to fish for the infamous piranha, known for their sharp teeth and aggressive appetite for meat, which has made them prominent in popular culture.

Take a canoe ride to visit a lake, observing monkeys, macaws, toucans, and sloths in the canopy. Stop by to see the famous Victoria Regia.

Dinner will be prepared over a fireplace on a wood and charcoal stove by the riverbank, where guests can enjoy a BBQ meal with soft drinks, beer, or traditional aphrodisiac drinks made from tree bark and roots, if desired.

Day 4: Monkey Island/Sloth/Visit a Native Community.

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Before breakfast, guests have the opportunity to visit Monkey Island, where monkeys rescued from illegal loggers have been released into this protected area.

Visit a native community to see how homes are constructed, explore schools and churches, and meet locals to learn about their farming and fishing techniques.

Enjoy a final lunch in the jungle before the onward journey. Guides will discuss the current threats facing the Peruvian jungle and the Amazon.
