Askja - This trip was epic. The area had been closed for 10 days and we were the first ones back and the only ones back .100 km of dirt track each way with black mountains and lava fields on all sides.Snow was deep in places and the superjeep had to force a path through. The group was made up of British, French Dutch and Icelandic and conversations was good.Anton is the perfect guide and a top man.He is witty and very knowledgeable plus he is a very skilled professional with tons of local knowledge and first hand experience of navigating difficult terrain in the Highlands. The trip is long but not dull. The landscape is powerful and absorbing with stops along the way to get glacial water and see an outlaws hideout plus toilets. The hike to Askja was through deep snow so hard going but that was fine and everyone made it and it added to the sense of exploration. The caldera, lake and Viti are very impressive and their size is hard to comprehend. The trip back along the 100km dirt track was a little easier as the path had been forged on the way up however as darkness fell another dimension was added.I would definitely recommend Anton's company and think he is the perfect guide. He showed high levels of skill and professionalism throughout the day and was also down to earth , pragmatic , conscientious and a real good laugh. He has the right balance and I feel fortunate to have met him and share a great 14 hours with the group .👍👊

Must do trip! - We were the first people allowed in Askya for ten days due to the weather and Anton our guide was absolutely amazing all through the day. His knowledge and stories kept everyone in the group entertained throughout the long journey and the stops we made along the way were fantastic. The journey wasn't one to be made without route knowledge due to the conditions, but Anton made everyone feel that they were in safe hands. It is a trip of a lifetime, worth every penny and something we will never experience again 🏔️

Great tour to amazing Asjka - We took a great tour during September when most tourists had left. The jeep is comfy and our guide had been just great. Told us many stories about landscape and people, a great personal touch. Will forever remember this tour. Worth the money!

Ideal for visiting the highlands - The day was great: our pilot knew the area perfectly, its roads etc... It gives full information and anecdotes about the place and Iceland in general, and also answers all questions (in English). The day perfectly matched the description! A little extra with the chance to see a polar fox thanks to our guide, who was also very friendly!

DEFINITELY THE WAY TO GO!! - We wanted to hike at Askja and wer debating weater or not to drive up or do the tour. we have experience driving rough roads and crossing glacial streams in 4x4, but I really didn't want the stress of doing so. Smart move. Here is why: 1) The road is Looooong ( 100km of F-Roads at least) and really rough. This would nopt have been fun 2) Our guide was great, fun and deeply knowledgeable. He was also able to cover that 100+km in less than half the time it would have taken us. (as it was it was 3-4 hours each way to get there.) 2) Super jeep way high, great perspective, and a relatively smooth ride. Relatively..... they are lava fields. 8 people in jeep total. did not feel like a bus or corwded tour. 4)Side stops were great- places I wouldnt have known about, including agreat little rest spot with the best moss soup I've had in Iceland. 5) Askja is amazing-- it was really windy ( 60-70 mph gusts) and some volcanic activity, so no swimming in Viti, but still worth every minute.

An Experience with a Capital "E" - We were very skeptical about this tour. I had read wonders about Askja, but from the photos I found on the net I could not understand if it was really worth spending so much money and embarking on a 12-13 hour hike. We spent 473 € (2 people), using a "promo code" found on the web. Well, it was an exceptional experience. What you find on Askja's website does not make absolutely in the photographs. There is a huge crater, which is lost on the horizon, unphotographable, due to a collapse of a plateau caused by a previous mega eruption. Subsequently another collapse created the lake, which lies within the first immense crater. After that there was the explosion that created the smaller crater "Viti" (hell), the one where he can swim venturing down a very uncomfortable descent. All around the site, for tens of kilometers, there is pumice stone covering the ground, emanating from the explosions. The journey itself, of hours, on a dirt road, in lunar landscapes, helps to make this place even more incredible. Along the way you will have several breaks and visits to other interesting places. It is without doubt the most beautiful thing we have seen in Iceland, along with the Kerlingarfjoll mountain geothermal zone (not reported on TripAdvisor). And then there's him... Julius. A Character. A host behind the wheel of a super Jeep. He's too nice. I'll attach a selfie of him that he took with my phone. He drove so many hours and was nice and didactic until the end. He also pulled a car that had become bogged down with his super vehicle from a ford. And in this regard I recommend this tour even more. I knew you could reach Askja on your own and I saw so many people who did. But it takes experience, courage and the right cars. I preferred to delegate to others and enjoyed the day 100%. Great tour. Yeah.

Great day! Price/quality can be better. - I would recommend everyone to do such a tour to the highlands. It is really beautiful and you don't want to miss it. However, there were a few things that were a bit disappointing. The guide that was supposed to take us made a mistake in his work schedule and did not show up. Another colleague was therefore called at the last minute to fill in for him. The result was that we took off 40 minutes late. He apologized and of course it’s not the fault of the substitute and things like this can happen, but with such a big delay I would’ve expected a little compensation just as a courtesy, like a 10% discount or sth else. Just a small gesture. Also the guide was continuously calling other people in the car. He excused himself but then continued doing more phone calls. He said it was because he needed to cancel a few things because his day took a turn, but it were numerous phone calls during the day. I just thought that was a bit odd. With the last stop he also didn’t say anything about the place. It felt a bit rushed because our day obviously ended a little bit more late than supposed to. Don’t get me wrong it was a beautiful day. The sun was out, it had snowed 2 days prior, so the landscape looked amazing. The guide was friendly and had nice stories and it was a lovely small group. It was just considering the high price (almost €400 pp - no lunch included) we expect things to be a little more perfect. At least that was our opinion.
