- Tanah Lot - Situated approximately 30 km from Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar, Tanah Lot is easily accessible. Traveling from Denpasar on the main highway, you will encounter a prominent sign at the main intersection in Kediri, directing you southwest to Pura Tanah Lot. To reach the temple, visitors must traverse some dry land and ascend a hill.
Within the temple grounds, visitors can wander and appreciate the picturesque surroundings. While renowned for its sunset views, visiting early in the morning offers a quieter experience and a greater chance to capture a tranquil image of the temple. Several other temples are nearby, including Pura Pekendungan, Pura Batu Bolong, Pura Jero Kandang, Pura Enjung Galuh, and Pura Batu Mejan.
These temples are steeped in legends and myths about their historical origins. When Nirartha departed Beraban village, he gifted a special keris—a blade-like traditional weapon—to the Beraban leaders. The Ki Batu Gajah keris was believed to have the power to protect crops from plant diseases. Initially housed in Pura Pekendungan, it is now securely kept in Puri Kediri. However, on Odalan day, the Ki Batu Gajah keris is always part of the ceremonies.
Pura Batu Bolong is another remarkable sea temple built on a protruding rock cliff. “Batu Bolong” means “hollowed stone,” reflecting its distinctive feature. It is considered the twin of Tanah Lot, sharing many similar characteristics.
- Jatiluwih Green Land - The Jatiluwih rice terraces, located in the upland village of the same name in West Bali, are celebrated for their stunning and exotic landscapes. The cool highlands and breathtaking views at the base of Mount Batukaru provide excellent photo opportunities and a peaceful escape from the bustling southern part of the island.
Once a candidate for UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site status, the Jatiluwih rice terraces cover over 600 hectares of rice fields that follow the natural contours of the Batukaru mountain range. These terraces are maintained by a traditional water management cooperative known as subak, which dates back to the 9th century. This cooperative was eventually recognized as a key element in Bali’s ‘cultural landscape’ entry on the heritage list.
-
Lake Beratan - This lakeside temple was built to honor Dewi Danu, the goddess of the lake formed by a volcanic eruption 30,000 years ago.
-
Taman Ayun Temple - An ancient temple in Bali, Taman Ayun Temple is a Paibon/Pedarman King Mengwi Temple dedicated to worshiping the ancestral spirits of the kings. This was realized through the construction of a Paibon gedong and the building of meru-meru for worship, allowing the people of the Mengwi kingdom to seek prosperity from the Gods.
