Ollantaytambo - Our AB team will pick you up from your hotel in the city of Cusco at 4:30 a.m. for your 4-day Inca Trail, After breakfast in Ollantaytambo, we will head to km 82 (Piscakucho) to begin our adventure to Machu Picchu, where you will meet our expert team and pass through the checkpoint. The trek begins with a 3-hour hike to the Llactapata ruins, followed by a one-hour drive to Hatunchaca camp for a delicious lunch. Then, we will hike for 4 hours to Ayapata, our first campsite, where your tents will be set up and hot tea will be served upon arrival around 5:00 p.m.

Ayapata – Dead Woman’s Pass - Runkuraqay – Chaquicocha

Wayllabamba - Early morning, you’ll be awakened with either hot tea or coca tea to start the most challenging day of the 4-day trek to Machu Picchu. We’ll embark on a roughly 4-hour hike to Dead Woman’s Pass (4215m / 13829ft), the highest point of the Inca Trail Trek, where breathtaking landscapes await, and our guide will perform offerings to the local Gods. Following this, we’ll descend to Pacaymayu Valley for a 2-hour journey, indulging in a delectable lunch prepared by our chef. Continuing our trek, we’ll hike for another 1.5 hours to the second pass, Runqurakay (4000m / 13123ft), exploring the Inca site of the same name along the way, before descending to Sayacmarca ruins. Pressing forward, we’ll reach our second campsite, Chaquicocha (3600m / 11811ft), where you can relish a stunning sunset over the Vilcabamba mountain range and marvel at the Milky Way before dinner.

Chaquicocha – Intipata – Wiñaywayna

Winay Wayna - Today offers a more leisurely pace with just 5 hours of hiking to reach the final campsite. Beginning with a gentle Peruvian flat terrain for approximately 2 hours, the trek then descends to the campsite, showcasing diverse ecosystems and offering panoramic views of the Salkantay glacier, the second-highest peak in the Cusco region. Along the way, we’ll explore two Inca ruins, Phuyupatamarka, and Intipata, with our guide providing insights into each site. Upon reaching Intipata ruins, the last campsite becomes visible, and after a brief explanation from our guide, we’ll arrive at the campsite around 12:30 p.m. Following lunch, guests can shower and relax with a siesta until around 4 p.m., when we’ll embark on a short hike to explore the Inca ruins of Wiñaywayna, allowing for free time for photography. Returning to the campsite, we’ll bid farewell to our dedicated porters and enjoy dinner before retiring early to prepare for the following day’s adventures.

Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes - Cusco

Machu Picchu - Today, the eagerly awaited culmination of our journey arrives as we rise early to embark on the final stretch of the Inca Trail, passing the checkpoint at 5:30 a.m. Following this, a 1-hour and 20-minute hike brings us to the Sun Gate, offering breathtaking views of the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Descending for 45 minutes, we reach the Mapi checkpoint around 8:00 a.m. Our experienced tour guide then leads a 2-hour exploration of the citadel before boarding a tourist bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Departing on the train at either 14:55 or 15:20 p.m., our AB team awaits at the station to accompany you back to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, with an expected return around 7:00 p.m. For those trekking Huayna Picchu Mountain, arrangements for lunch and duffle bag pickup are made with our guide before taking the train.

Amazing 4-day Inca Trail with AB Expeditions - The 4-day Inca Trail was the best hike I’ve ever taken. And I’m glad I did it with AB Expeditions. Yes it is challenging, but very rewarding. The group we had was small, 7 trekkers total. This makes it easier to keep track during the trip. Our guide, Ricardo, was amazing. He had thorough knowledge of Incan culture and kept us constantly updated of the day’s activities and made sure that our trek was enjoyable. Vladimir, the photographer, took great photos, sometimes random ones. It’s almost like having a personal photographer. Nicanor, the chef, prepared great meals. We always had hot beverage for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, there was always an appetizer, entree, and dessert. And this was something we never expected. Juan, the head porter, made sure that the tents were set up before we arrived in the camp. Overall, it was a great experience. All you need to do is walk, eat, and sleep. It couldn’t get any simpler than that. I highly recommend AB Expeditions.

The most incredible experience!! - Our experience was incredible! It absolutely exceeded all of our expectations! Our guide Ricardo was absolutely fantastic! He was so knowledgeable on the finer details of the hike and the information about the different ruins and archeological sites that we visited along the way. He made sure everyone felt included and safe to go at their own pace. Our chef, Nicanor made the most incredibly delicious meals! The broad range of flavours and ingredients all gave us a beautiful taste of traditional Peruvian food! It was like eating at a 5 star restaurant! If there was a cook book of all the recipes that were cooked I would buy it in a heart beat! Our team of porters, lead by Juan were absolutely incredible, so friendly and ensured that we had everything we needed. It was so lovely, each day before we started hiking they would clap us off with their friendly faces! The work that the team does to ensure all runs smoothly is just amazing. We went lucky enough to have Vladimir, an excellent videographer and photographer join the AB team on our hike! He was there every step with us capturing all the incredible moments and brought such a fun addition to our group! It was a bonus along the way, we would practice English and Spanish with each other! AB Expeditions provided us with the most unforgettable 4 day Inca Trail experience. It was great that they have smaller groups than other companies, making the experience more personal and enjoyable. I would recommend this trip with AB expeditions to anyone! Thank you!!!

Great Time on the Trail - I just finished a 4 day Inca Trail expedition with AB Expeditions and could not be more impressed! Before I was in Peru AB did an excellent job of preparing me on what the schedule would be, the difficulty levels, and what to bring. Our team of Bernie, William, Luis, and all of the porters took excellent care of us on the trail. They were knowledgeable, the food was excellent, and the work the porters do is simply amazing. After seeing some of the other tour companies on the trail, I don't think I would do the Inca trail with any other company than AB!

Unforgettable trek to Machu Picchu - Did the Inca trail 4 day trek. Our guide Bernie was fantastic, great attitude and very attentive to our needs. Our cook William prepared meals you would not believe came out of a tent a two day hike from any stores. And of coure the porters headed by Luis impressed us over and over as they trekked right past us hauling 25kg of gear. And I was pleased to see that as promised by AB they all had good hiking gear provided by AB. I would not hesitate to boon again with AB Expeditions. Infact while in Cusco I did 3 other outings with them and all were fantastic.

The best quality of the Inka Trail - The AB expeditions team embroidered it. The experience is unforgettable for the beauty of the road itself, but it has been much easier thanks to the great work they do. I want to make a special mention to the team of Berni (Guide), William (Cook) and Luis (Porter) for how well they have treated us, very professional. The food is surprisingly rich for the difficulty of transporting everything, we have hallucinated. Thank you very much for everything AB, we will definitely return.
