Casablanca - Upon your arrival at Casablanca airport, our guide will warmly welcome you to the country.
To kick off the tour, we will visit one of Morocco’s major wonders: the Hassan II Mosque. This mosque is the second tallest in the world and one of the few that non-Muslims can enter. Inside, your guide will explain the religious traditions and rituals of Islam. As noted by the author of the Morocco Country Study Guide, the Hassan II Mosque “undeniably marks the continuity of a modernized ancestral art and bears the sign of innovations that are due not only to technical reasons but also to a fertile exploration of new aesthetic possibilities”.
Afterward, you can enjoy some coffee and traditional pastries in the “de la ligue Arab” park, the largest park in Casablanca, or sip a soda by the sea.
We will then head to the hotel, where you will have your first taste of delicious Moroccan cuisine.
Casablanca – Rabat – Meknes – Fez
Rabat - In the morning, we will depart for Rabat, where you can admire its beautiful domes, minarets, wide avenues, and green spaces.
Rabat developed in the 14th and 15th centuries following the expulsion of Andalusians from the Iberian Peninsula. The city is encircled by three walls representing significant historical periods: the Almohad wall, the Andalusian wall, and the Alawite wall. Your guide will show you these walls and the city’s main attractions, such as the Hassan Tower, located atop an imposing mosque, and the opulent tomb of Mohammed V, among others.
After Rabat, we will head towards Fes. En route, we can visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis, one of the best-preserved Roman sites in the world, with a local guide. For a long time, Volubilis was the main Roman administrative center in Northern Africa outside of Egypt.
We will arrive in Fes before dinner and take a panoramic view of the city, with the sunlight casting an orange glow over the white buildings. After dinner, you can listen to an ancient Moroccan storyteller unravel the mysteries of old, or participate in a workshop on Arabic calligraphy.
Fez
Fes - We will spend the morning and part of the afternoon exploring the medina of Fes, described by Paul Bowles as “an enchanted labyrinth protected from time”. You will have an additional guide who knows the city intimately, allowing you to discover its corners, traditions, stories, and history.
The labyrinthine medina of Fes has over 9000 streets, creating a magical environment of light and shadow. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Fes was once the capital of Morocco and has Fatimid, Andalusian, Arabic, and Jewish influences. The city reached its peak in the 13th century and became a center of knowledge, housing one of the world’s oldest universities.
You will visit the most important palaces, the Jewish quarters, the Madrassa (an old school and university from the 13th century), and the Quranic school. Additionally, you will see the authentic handicrafts of Fes, including its leatherwork. You can purchase original leather products at low prices near the production sites, where ancient methods are still used.
Fez – Ifran – Erfoud – Merzouga (dunes of the Sahara)
Merzouga - We will depart in the morning to visit the magical cedar forests of Azrou and Ifran, where you will be enchanted by the spectacular native nature. The atmosphere is calm, clear, and rich with the scents of nature.
On our journey, we will make a brief stop in Midelt, a small town between the High and Middle Atlas, an exceptional location to view the lush mountain landscape. During our journey, you may observe monkeys and other typical animals of these forests.
Upon arriving in Merzouga, you will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan tea. Then, it’s time for a camel ride through the desert for about an hour to visit some of the most beautiful oases. You will also visit the dunes of Merzouga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterward, you can enjoy an unforgettable dinner outdoors in the desert, under a beautiful nomad tent where weddings were traditionally celebrated. After dinner, there will be live music, and those who wish can dance around the fire.
Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
Gargantas del Todra - After an unforgettable night in the desert, experiencing its culture, traditions, and trade, we will head to the rocky landscape of the Gorges and the High Atlas and the green beauty of the Dadès Valley. We will start the day by visiting the ancient city of Rissani, and nearby, you can visit a live fossil excavation. Ancient memories of a distant past show that the Sahara was once beneath the ocean! You may see these fossils being unearthed before your eyes. You can purchase real trilobite fossils or marble sculptures (e.g., camels) embedded with fossils at low prices.
Next, we will explore the Todra Gorge, one of the most spectacular canyons in the world, with towering rock cliffs reaching 600 meters high, separated by only 10 meters, and extending for several kilometers.
The day will end peacefully in the stunning Dadès Valley, where you can hear the birds singing in the green valley.
Dades Valley – Ait benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Dades Gorges - We will follow the “Route of the One Thousand Kasbahs” to Kalaat Mgouna – The City of Roses. We will also visit the traditional villages of Skoura and ‘El Kelaa des M’Gouna. A Kasbah is an ancient form of a castle, and even the word “castle” originates from the word “Kasbah”.
Next, we will head to Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou, two locations of great historical and cultural importance in the Atlas Mountains. You will feel as if you have traveled back in time, witnessing the landscape and the lives of those who dedicated themselves to trade.
Ait Benhaddou is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most important ksar on the “Route of the One Thousand Kasbahs”, a route of small fortifications that allowed trade caravans to travel between the Sahara Desert and Marrakesh. It is still inhabited and used as a setting for movies such as “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones” to add authenticity.
In Ouarzazate, you can discover the ancient wall, the fortification of Kasba Taouirt, and the palace of the Pasha Glaoui. It is a remarkable movie-making location, with some of the world’s largest studios. You can also visit the movie studios of Ouarzazate, one of the most prominent and important movie centers in the world. Films such as “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Gladiator” were shot here.
We will arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon and have dinner at a restaurant with a fantastic view of the city.
Marrakech
Marrakech - Visit Marrakesh, the red city of Morocco and the cosmopolitan center of the country. The intense scent of spices, the colorful and exotic atmosphere, the small corners and historical secrets, along with its surprising architecture, make this the most desired and visited city in Morocco.
Throughout the day, you will be accompanied by a tour guide/historian exclusively dedicated to Marrakesh, ensuring you experience the best the city has to offer.
The attractions are numerous: the Bahia Palace (an opulent 19th-century building), the Ben Youssef Medersa (an old Muslim university), Majorelle’s gardens, and many more. On this unforgettable day, you will visit all of them. Also, enjoy the Souk (traditional market), where the commerce, the city’s main activity, is bustling.
At night, there will be a special farewell dinner served in a magnificent Arabic palace, recently restored, featuring live shows such as belly dancing.
