- 5 Ijevanian Street - Immerse yourself in Armenia’s vibrant carpet-weaving heritage at our engaging workshop at Telik Handmade in Ijevan, Tavush Province. Begin your journey with an overview of Armenian carpet-making history, highlighting the renowned Ijevan rugs, the Soviet-era Haygorg factory, and the cultural importance of weaving in Tavush.
Following this, take a seat at a loom and learn to weave a traditional “shulal” style carpet under the guidance of talented local artisans. As you weave, enjoy local tales, weaving customs, and expert support from our team. Your creation will be a small woven piece (approximately 6x7-8cm) adorned with Armenian motifs, which you can transform into a bracelet, necklace, brooch, magnet, or coaster to take home.
To round off the experience, savor some Armenian coffee or tea accompanied by local sweets, including “sali,” a Tavush delicacy traditionally enjoyed during Vardavar, a water festival with pagan origins. We’ll share insights about these and other local traditions during your masterclass, allowing you to connect with Armenia’s weaving legacy while directly supporting local artisans.
