We are set to explore the ancient Santos Cosme and Diamiao Church, a testament to Brazil’s early Catholic history. Our journey will allow us to traverse the town of Itapissuma, fondly referred to as “Crustacean Land”, as we make our way towards the serene Itamaracá Island that lies on the border of the Santa Cruz Channel.
Our path takes us over the majestic Getúlio Vargas’ Bridge, where the striking scenery of Itamaracá Island awaits us. We can soak in the sights and sounds of its magnificent beaches and tranquil waters for an estimated 4 hours.
There’s also an opportunity to experience the lesser-known Coroa do Avião Island by taking a vessel from Forte Orange. This unspoiled island, with its clear inviting waters and seafood-specialist restaurants, promises a unique aquatic adventure. (Optional)
Our journey continues to the remains of Engenho São João, a 17th-century sugar mill exuding old-world charm. After feasting our eyes on this historical landmark, our expedition concludes with a return trip to Recife.
