Hvar, the adriatic gem, is rich yet quaint. Hvar, the adriatic gem, is rich yet quaint. A great way to begin exploring is by visiting the cathedral’s square renaissance bell tower, an awe-inspiring sight in the evening when it’s bathed in the day’s last light and the structure’s slender arches become transparent. From there, proceed to St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and then meander to the town’s main square (locally known as ‘place’) — the epicenter of Hvar’s social life boasting cafes, eateries, boutiques, and a 16th-century water source.
Take a brief break at one of the al fresco cafes before heading to the striking Renaissance-era monastery featuring an attractive bell tower, and then to Hvar’s Loggia, previously the palace of the Venetian governor. Lastly, pay a visit to Hvar Town’s primary square and be greeted by a stairway that leads to the Porta di Datallo — hard to believe, but this used to be a Venetian fortress in the 1500s! This tour is a delightful walk through history!
