Exceeded my expecations! - What an amazing day. It really exceeded my expectations. The walk/climb itself was harder than I expected, so if you are going, make sure that you have good footwear, plenty of fluids, and some snacks along the way. I go to the gym and cycle to work every day, and it is still tiring on my legs. Don't let that put you off; you just need to be prepared. The guide was great, and the communication between Joe and myself was fluid from beginning to end, so I knew I was in safe hands. I was picked up and dropped off in a very nice car. I went for a local lunch after the walk and was directed and supported during the walk. I would highly recommend it if you want to experience the real feel of the Great Wall away from the tourists and selfie sticks.

Great hike along the great wall - After a business trip, I decided at short notice to book a tour to the Great Wall together with two colleagues. The booking went smoothly via email and WeChat.
It was a great trip that I can highly recommend. Our guide Joe picked us up at the hotel in the morning and after a two-hour drive we arrived at the starting point. We were very lucky with our guide. Joe's English is excellent and already in the car he answered all our questions about China, the culture, life and of course the Great Wall.
After the driver dropped us off, we walked a short distance up the mountain to reach the wall. From there we followed the wall for about 8 km and experienced many different parts with varying degrees of steepness, obstacles, towers and of course excellent views. We only encountered a dozen other people on the entire tour. This wild section is therefore perfect for those who want to experience the Great Wall away from mass tourism.
After the hike, Joe took us to a local farm where we enjoyed an excellent lunch. All in all, this day will remain in our memories forever. Thank you Joe for this wonderful experience!

Unique hiking experience - My husband and I had a wonderful time hiking the Great Wall with our guide Tim. The hike was beautiful and moderately challenging. I enjoyed experiencing both the ruins and the renovated sections of the wall. Hiking through ruins is a very unique experience. The slide down to the bottom was a great way to end our hike! Tim did a great job getting in touch with me before the trip, and our driver was excellent as well.

Unforgettable! - From my research of the Jiankou section of the wall, I knew I couldn't miss the spectacular highlights of Heaven's Ladder, Eagles Fly Upward and Beijing Knot.
Untouched Great Wall recommended that we hike from Jiankou eastward towards Huanghuacheng which is the more dramatic and adventurous route than the opposite direction towards Mutianyu.
Some videos online of this section are daunting but I'd say anyone with a bit of nerve and decent fitness could do this comfortably! So beware of being unnecessarily put off.
Untouched Great Wall organised a bespoke experience that accommodated our plans and exceeded all of our expectations! Tim was an extremely informative, fun, easy going and conscientious guide - he provided the more thrilling and daring hike we were looking for but always gave responsible guidance for our safety.
For those relying on English language for the tour, Tim's was very accomplished, as was the quick and super clear email correspondence from Untouched.
The tour was unforgettable and we wouldn't hesitate to book this again or to take another tour with Untouched to see another part of the wall!

Amazing hike on the Great Wall! - The hike was amazing and certainly the highlight of my visit to Beijing! The opportunity to see the Great Wall both in its "wild" and restored states is great. Also, if you would like to be able to admire the views without the crowds of tourists trying to take selfies around you, this is the way to go. The organization was flawless and both the driver and the guide (Wei/Ivy) were excellent. Because of the traffic, gentle pace on the trail and plenty of time spent on appreciating the views, the trip took longer than expected but they were both fine with it. The walk itself is mildly demanding but suitable shoes are essential. To finish off, the lunch was also fantastic. In summary - I really recommend this trip!

A deep dive into the Chinese culture! - Starting from the tour organization, Joe will do anything to help you out! He’s kind and always available. The day I spend with Tim, my local guide, was a blast! Tim is polite, highly educated, willing to engage in insightful conversations, and an impressive English speaker! A deep dive into the Chinese culture. Regarding the hike, I don’t think the description provided actually meets the excursion intensity honestly. An average fit person can easily manage it in less than 2h.

Unique wall experience with a fantastic guide! - My partner and I booked the Jiankou to Mutianyu hike and were lucky to have Tim as our guide. The hike begins in a rugged and unrestored area of the wall which is very quiet and protected from the public - we saw barely anyone else there. We hiked along the wall from there to mutianyu which is restored and much busier, so we were thankful to experience both sections. October/Autumn provided great temperature and beautiful scenery for hiking in. The private driver was fantastic and our guide Tim was very engaging, he kept us entertained with lots of information all throughout the tour. Highly recommend!

Amazing hike with a great guide - We have decided to take this hike because of great Tripadvisor reviews, and it was turned out an awesome day.
Our tour guide Peter was already waiting for us at appointed time in our hotel, and he started the tour by telling us a a lot of interesting facts about Beijing while we were driving to the Great Wall. After arriving to Jiankou village we got some free water bottles, mosquito & snake sprays, walking sticks and started an uphill trek. Peter was encouraging us to not hurry and take our time in this most difficult part of the hike. Our 9 y.o. kid managed the climbing quite well, and soon we arrived at the Great Wall Zhengbeilou tower. The views there are truly amazing, we spent some time at the tower taking photos, and listening to Peter's stories about the Great Wall history.
The undeveloped section of the wall from Jiankou to Mutianyu is actually not so difficult as some might believe. Quite a few small towers (some in ruins) are on the way, and the views of the Wall are so nice. Older kids definitely can walk this route without problems. We did a shortcut around "Ox Horn" tower, as that part is quite steep, and would have been a bit too much in a hot weather. I'd really recommend to start this hike early when the days are hot, in summer.
After arriving at the Mutianyu section prepare for the crowds of tourists, at least at the steep part where the official section ends. You can buy drinks and souvenirs at some towers. Our hike in the Mutianyu section was not easier or even more difficult than the undeveloped section, mostly because of hot weather. Doing it in spring or autumn would be so much easier.
Finally after few hours we reached the toboggan ride down from the wall. Our kid was definitely waiting for it. Peter helped us on the way down, and soon we were riding the minivan to have a lunch in a small town restaurant on the way to Beijing. Lunch was quite impressive, at least for those of us with less China experience.
All in all, it was a memorable day hike, thanks to "Untouched Great Wall" and especially our guide Peter.
