A great trip to take out of the busy city - This was a great tour in so many ways! John was our tour guide and we were picked up at our hotel and take to the sidecar location and we rode on the back of scooters! That was so fun! John and Luke made us feel safe. At the sidecar location we were treated to local prepackaged breakfast items and hot tea with a lovely woman. The sidecars were very comfortable and we went to a village temple, took picture on a bridge, visited and learned about Vietnamese cemetery histories, and a rural farm. The farmland was a highlight and we learned so much about the soil, the foods, and the traditions. Then we had a home cooked huge lunch back at the sidecar location using organic produce!

Hanoi Sidecar Tour.... Hanoi Countryside Food, Culture and Daily Life - Arrived in Hanoi on the 1st of December, one day ahead of the commencement of our scheduled tour. We decided to book the Hanoi Sidecar. Countryside Food, Culture and Daily Life Tour with Hanoi Backstreet Tours, and we are so glad that we did. Before commencing our tour we had a delicious lunch at the Hidden Gem Cafe which was truely amazing. The owner was a young lady who loved to recycle things, the decor was amazing and the food delicious. Then we met John and Mike. John spoke very good English and was so knowledgeable on his culture and the history of Vietnam. Mike was my driver and was really lovely too. Although he could not speak a lot of English he could understand. We were a bit reluctant to drive through the busy streets of Hanoi on a scooter but the boys were such experienced riders that our fears soon subsided. Once on the outskirts of Hanoi we picked up the sidecars and the fun began. We saw lots of little villages and locals working their plots of land. John told us that when you buy a house In a village you get a plot of land outside the village to grow your fruit and vegetables. I have never seen such big cabbages. 😀 We went to a cemetery with lots of really old graves and some very ornate tombstones. We then went to a temple where one of the very early kings of Vietnam lived. The stories that John told us were so informative that we could actually picture the situations he told us about. The bonsai within the temple grounds were amazing and, judging by their size, must have hundreds of years old. The temple overlooked a magnificent lake and just down the road was a Lotus Farm. There were hundreds of Lotus and Waterlilly growing in hugh ponds. John bought some fish food to feed the koi. It was so lovely to see the brightly coloured koi jumping out of the water while feeding. We even saw a tortoise swimming around with them. We then headed back to where we had picked up the sidecars, a coffee shop on the outskirts of Hanoi. We were greeted by a lovely lady and her daughter who gave us some very nice seaweed biscuits a a hot cup of tea. We were a little sad as we knew that our day was almost at an end. We got on the scooters and the boys drove us back to our hotel through peak hour traffic. It was really lovely seeing the city lights on the back of a scooter. I would recommend this tour to anyone and remember you are never too old to try something new... We are in our late 70s, early 80s and if I ever get to Hanoi again I will definitely be looking the boys up. Definitely 12 out 10 from me 😁
