Review for Stephen – Hanoi Walking STREET FOOD Tours & EGG COFFEE Class by Hanoi Backstreet Tours - We had an absolutely fantastic experience on the Hanoi Walking STREET FOOD Tours & EGG COFFEE Class with our guide, Stephen. From the moment we met him, Stephen’s warm personality, deep knowledge of Hanoi’s food culture, and genuine passion for sharing local flavors made this tour truly exceptional. Stephen took us on an incredible culinary journey through the bustling streets of Hanoi, introducing us to hidden gems and authentic street food spots that we would have never discovered on our own. Each stop offered something unique – from fragrant pho to delicious banh mi and the delightful egg coffee experience. He not only explained the ingredients and preparation behind each dish but also shared fascinating stories about Hanoi’s history and culture. What stood out the most was Stephen’s attentiveness to everyone in the group. He ensured we were comfortable, catered to dietary preferences, and made the experience interactive and engaging. If you’re visiting Hanoi and want to experience its vibrant street food scene in an authentic and fun way, I can’t recommend Stephen and Hanoi Backstreet Tours enough. This tour is an absolute must-do! Thank you, Stephen, for an unforgettable experience – we’ll cherish these flavors and memories for a long time.

Amazing authentic coffee experience ☕️ - It was a lovely experience, Stephen was very knowledgeable and sweet. He explained the steps of each coffee clearly and provided recipes afterwards. We got to try all different kinds of coffee which was very nice. My favourite was the salt coffee.

The absolute worst tour! - This is as the absolute worst tour I’ve ever done in any country I’ve visited in my life. My friend and I did this tour on 11 March 2025 and our guide was John. The food was horrible! Our first stop was for a fried donut which was alright, the next stop was for a fried egg, pork, WORMS, onion and coriander pattie. Need less to say I didn’t eat it and when I asked if we could donate the untouched food John replied that they would give it to the farmers for the pigs! He also said that the worms are farmed and not dug out of the ground (as if that made a difference!). We then went to a place that served bland vermicelli noodles cold with spring rolls, boiled pork (looked disgusting didn’t even bother to eat / try it), fried pork and pig intestines (I did tell John I only ate basic chicken, pork, beef and lamb & not offal). We then ate vanilla ice cream with mango and shredded coconut. Admittedly this was nice but there was nothing special about it and I could have made it at home. The next stop was some sort of soup and while the broth was okay I would not rave about it. After that we told John we did not want to continue with the tour and we wanted to head back. On the way he told us he got a tattoo on his arm that cost $200 USD but then tried to get extra money out of us by telling us a sob story about paying for his sister’s education. He even opened his wallet to show us he accepted Australian currency! It was as the ABSOLUTE worst tour I’ve ever done! Hanoi is supposed to know for street food and the tour we got was absolutely nothing like the itinerary. I can get better Vietnamese food in Melbourne. I can not say enough that I would NEVER recommend this tour to anyone! Steer clear!
