After a short drive from Salzburg you’ll reach the castle of Fuschl. Capture a picture of the castle of Fuschl with the emerald-green Lake Fuschlsee as its backdrop, before heading on to St. Gilgen with Lake Wolfgang, the next photo stop.
- St Gilgen Mozartplatz - The next highlight is Wolfgang Lake and the villages St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang. Capture a picture of St. Wolfgang from a great view point before arriving at the next town, in Bad Ischl. The drive will take you through Bad Ischl, which is famous for the “Kaiser” (Emperor) Villa and the Café Zauner, and on to Bad Goisern and Hallstatt.
- Hallstatter See - Having reached Hallstatt and the highlight of this full day tour, your private guide will point out the must-sees of Hallstatt to you, which include a beautiful photo spot of Hallstatt, Charnel House (Bone House), Hallstatt Museum, Hallstatt Waterfall “Waldbachstrub”, Hallstatt’s local residence area and more. - Salzburger Altstadt - The ride back to Salzburg will take you via Gosau (including another great photo stop!), Dachstein Mountain Range, Russbach and Golling. After six hours exploring one of Austria’s most beautiful areas, your private tour will conclude with drop-off at your Salzburg city hotel.

Fantastic day trip to Hallstatt! - Lena was the best tour guide! She picked us up at our hotel in Salzburg right on time in a beautiful Mercedes Van! Sue drove us to Hallstatt and stopped at a few small beautiful towns on the way! We were travelling with our 3 adult children! This was the best way to see the country side of the Salzburg area! Highly recommended! Thank you Lena for making our family trip special!

Beautiful Day visiting Hallstatt - What a wonderful day spent visiting Hallstatt, a place I’ve dreamt to see at this time of year. We appreciated Lena’s sweet personality, patience, and overall kindness. It’s always fascinating to learn about a country, its people, and history. A must! - Absolutely breathtaking scenery in the peace and comfort of your own vehicle. Lena was terrific! Such a delight. And very knowledgeable. There are lots of ways to get to Hallstat but this is clearly the best. And on the way to and from. we saw many beautiful sights off the beaten path which buses and trains can’t visit.

A fantastique day out of the city! - Patrick was an excellent tour guide who took us to many great sights along our route to Hallstatt. He told us about all of the beautiful spots for photos and provided very interesting historical facts about Austria and the local region. After an introduction to Hallstatt, we were able to explore and enjoy on our own for about an hour and a half before taking the ferry back to meet up with Patrick. We had a wonderful time and would recommend to all!

Hallstatt from Salzburg - Lena was our guide to Hallstatt with an abundance of local knowledge. She expertly took us to all of the important places but also some off the beaten path destinations. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and her company. We highly recommend this private tour!

Wonderful tour - This was a great tour to a lovely town. Our guide was very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this tour. The guide mentioned that a longer option was available which I would have signed up for if I had known about it but I didn't see the option on Viator. Perhaps something to message the tour operator about after signing up if you are interested....

Unforgettable Hallstatt Day Trip in Luxury—Insider Access Without the Crowds - If you’re looking for a truly special way to experience Hallstatt, skip the tour buses and book a private Mercedes van instead. This was hands-down one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip.
From Salzburg, the ride was smooth, comfortable, and scenic—and best of all, we got to beat the big crowds. Our guide took us to a stunning viewpoint above Hallstatt that most tourists completely miss—no stair climbing needed. It felt like a secret, peaceful spot where we had postcard-worthy views all to ourselves.
Once in town, we walked with our guide and learned things we would’ve never known just wandering alone—like where to find Roman ruins tucked under a shop floor, or which lakeside restaurant has the view for lunch (and it did not disappoint). We wrapped up with a serene ferry ride across the lake where the van met us on the other side—zero backtracking, just beautiful views.
This wasn’t just a tour—it was a thoughtfully curated, one-of-a-kind experience of a World Heritage site. If you want luxury, local insight, and a way to see Hallstatt without feeling like cattle, this is the way to go.

Breathtaking views on this trip which is very well organised - Highly recommended. We did a private tour with family with seniors and kids - our trip driver & guide was Lina - full points to her for doing a fantastic job. The views were breathtaking and picture perfect. We had right assistance as well as flexibility. Overall loved the experience.

Extraordinary day trip ! - Our guide, Lena, was completely delightful, organized, and a wealth of knowledge! We all learned so much from her, a native of Salzburg, about the Austrian culture and the sights. On the way to Hallstatt, she took us on an incredibly beautiful drive, making several stops at other beautiful lakes in the area.
