Fun way to explore Hobart - Definitely worthwhile going on the trip. It should definitely run later, especially in Summer, and some of the buses speakers were not good (hard to hear). Automated commentary does need updating, but overall experience was great.

Spectacular! - The drive to the top was in itself spectacular! And then, once at the pinnacle - Wow! We were lucky enough to go on a sunny blue sky day so could clearly see all of the Hobart region laid out directly below us and 140km across hill ranges to the North. Our driver/guide Greg was very informative about a whole range of relevant topics as well as being extremely courteous. Would thoroughly recommend, particularly on 1st day of a Hobart visit as it really places the city into its physical context.

Mount Wellington December 13, 2024 - Our trip to Mt. Wellington with Susie our driver and guide was great. Sue was very knowledgeable and pointed out lots of flowers, trees, water falls on our way up to the mountain.

Cloudy summit, you can't guarantee the weather! - In Hobart our cruise ship was docked (I think there is only one dock) and able to walk off the ship straight into town. We had pre-booked the Red Decker Mount Wellington and Hop on Hop off bus tour, which departed at 11am from outside the Tourist Information Centre, about 10 minutes walk from the pier. Unfortunately it was a cloudy day so we didn't get much of a view from the summit, but it was an informative commentary from the bus driver (Greg). Tip: it gets cold at the top (usually around 12 Celsius cooler than sea level) and with added wind chill make sure you take layers - we needed woolly hats, gloves and jackets! The Mount Wellington bus was back in town by 1330, and we then transferred to the Hop on Hop off, which runs half hourly when a cruise ship is in Hobart. Just going around the city loop on the bus takes 1.5 hours - due to time constraints we chose not to get off at any of the stops but the ticket is valid for 48 hours. With hindsight I would have done the 930 Mount Wellington bus instead of 1100, and that would have given more time on the Hop on Hop off. As long as your cruise ship arrival is early enough there is plenty of time to make the first (930) Mount Wellington bus.

Beautiful experience not to be missed! - I loved this experience! I landed in The Springs to climb the rest of the mountain by Pinnacle trail and Zig Zagreb trail. In the middle of summer, walking shoes are not necessary but at least running shoes. However, you must be well equipped with water, windbreaker and tuque because it is very cold and windy. The slopes are well marked and continually rising. I took the bus to get off but I could have easily gotten off on foot. I really liked the ability to board and disembark whenever you want. The driver on the way up, Sue, had a lot of interesting things to tell us about the area. However, she didn't have a track map on her bus but I was able to manage anyway.

great way to see kunanyi even with a knee-injury - I had a knee injury and couldn't walk too far so we booked this tour up kunanyi and it was great. The bus was easy to get on/off with my knee and the views on the drive up were excellent. The driver (Tony) was a excellent - very knowledgable of the mountain's history with 10/10 dad jokes thrown in between facts. Me and my friend hopped off at The Springs to do some of the shorter/easier walks and Tony recommended a few spots we could check out. An excellent way to see kunanyi if you don't have a car or can't walk too far.

Amazing view! - The view at the summit was amazing! And it was very easy and comfortable tour, you can go up to the top of the mountain staying in the warm bus and have 30min or more to explore some track and lookout at the summit. Hop on and hop off bus was fun as well, it was good to see out of the city! You just need to know that the bus operates every 60 mins. So you’ll spend at least half day if you wanna stop at a few places. Also, this ticket is available for 48 hrs from whenever you start to use. So you should start using it even before going to Mt.Wellington and make the most of it! (It was confusing so I had to ask operator)

Even in bad weather we had a good experience! - Greg was excellent. The weather was awful. Our driver had the foresight to stop at a look out on the way UP and we had a good viewing. It was raining hard on the way down. Driver was very good.
