This segment of the tour serves as a prelude to the main experience at Mitaki Temple. It offers a deeper understanding of the atomic bombing’s impact and sets the stage for the narratives and sites to be discovered later in the Mitaki area.
Following the walk, a local bus will be taken near the Atomic Bomb Dome at 1:36 PM to reach the Mitaki area. The journey typically lasts about 18 minutes, though this may vary with traffic conditions.
- Mitaki-dera - Upon alighting from the bus, the group will proceed to Mitaki Temple. The walk usually takes around 10 minutes, but will be leisurely, with stops at several intriguing spots along the way, accompanied by the guide’s insights.
At Mitaki Temple (admission included), the guide will escort visitors through the tranquil mountain grounds. Along the path, preserved atomic-bombed buildings, a remarkable pagoda representing the temple, numerous stone Buddhist statues, and monuments inscribed with messages of peace and remembrance will be observed.
These sites provide a profound understanding of Hiroshima’s spirit — a city that once flourished as a military hub, was profoundly impacted by the atomic bombing, and has since transformed into a beacon of peace.
After appreciating the walk around Mitaki Temple, the group will walk approximately 15 minutes to Mitaki Station and take the train back to Central Hiroshima.
