Highlights
  • Sani Pass - The Sani Pass has been described by almost everyone as the ‘Mother of all Passes’. It is a gravel pass with extremely steep bends between KwaZulu-Natal’s Underberg region and Lesotho.

It is higher and steeper and much tougher than any of its Southern African competitors and the steep switch-backs offer the most exceptional views in the country.

Built in 1950 as a bridle path, what this pass takes out of you in the challenge of adventure, it gives back in scenery.

As the altitude increases, the road becomes narrower and more treacherous. All signs of human habitation disappear and you come face to face with the vast, desolate beauty of the Drakensberg Mountains.

The road is made of gravel, and at elevations ranging from 1544m to 2876m at the summit, the Sani pass is only for the bravest and the best guides. For safety reasons, only 4×4 cars are allowed on this Pass.

Great Sani Pass tour - We had a fantastic trip to the Sanipass with guide Nathi who told us a lot about the area and drove us safely up and down in the comfortable car. Along the way we were spoiled with coffee / tea and tasty cookies & muffins. Also the visit to a small village in Lesotho was very worthwhile. I would definitely recommend this tour ,also for families with children, who loved the frozen waterfalls.

The most gracious hosts ensuring that you make memories to last a life time - We own a travel and tour company called VMG Travel and Tours from start to end Angie has been the most gracious host ever. This was supposed to a personal trip for Mervyn and myself however our clients that have traveled with us previously wanted to join us and we ended up with a group of 20 Angie organised everything to perfection. She even went the extra mile of getting the menu for us and arranging our meals at the highest Pub in SA. On arrival at the hotel we were a few minutes late and Greg was so patient and wow what a surprise it was when he brought out the most beautiful chocolate cake courtesy of Angie, this was such a beautiful gesture. The attention to detail was out of this world each of the guests had a bottle of water a small little welcome box filled wd the most divine fudge and a menu which stated what snacks will be served on route. What pleasant tour guides we had., we had Greg who was so Informative we learnt so much, the rest of our group were also full of praises of their tour guides as well. The entire experience was just amazing and I would recommend that any one who wants to visit the Sani pass or any other trip listed please contact Angie and you will never regret it. Personally VMG Travel and Tours will definitely be arranging more tours for our groups in the near future. Angie and Greg keep up the good work your efforts time and energy put in will definitely ensure that you reap the rewards. Thank so much for making my birthday such a memorable one

Journey to the highest pub in Africa - Our private tour up the Sani Pass was amazing! Nathi is an awesome tour guide whose knowledge of the Pass, its history & abundant wildlife made this day really special for us. Angie was great in accommodating us at fairly short notice & her home-baked tea-time treats were divine. We'll certainly do this tour again!

Exceptional Sani Pass Tour - Our experience was great. Our tour guide Greg was excellent with exceptional knowledge. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel and he drove carefully and explained everything very well. Angie was very helpful from the start of us making the booking till the very end. Adding her personal sweet gesture with home-baked muffins and chocolate boxes and not forgetting our certificates. Alina's home-made bread was also very tasty.

Sani Pass on a cool winters day but the hospitality from our tour guide made us feel so special and welcomed. - This was my second trip up Sani Pass in the last 6 months with Greg. He is an excellent guide with his local knowledge. The trip went so smoothly as he got us through the border posts quickly. The home made cookies and coffee were a welcome break and he taught us a lot about Basuto culture. Very enjoyable trip driven carefully by Greg. Lots of chances for amazing photos. Thanks for the special memories.
