Private tour to dunrobbin. - Big Gav was a great host. We enjoyed the tour to Dunrobin and all the whiskey drams and advice. Gavin found us a great spot for lunch and we all enjoyed the day. Recommend this tour

Wonderful Day in the Highlands! - Based on the excellent reviews of Invergordon Tours I began emailing Gavin almost 6 months in advance of our scheduled day in port on our Oceania cruise. All my emails were answered promptly and Gavin helped me craft a private Highland itinerary based on our specific interests. John was to be our driver/guide and he met us just outside the gates of Invergordon's (exceedingly!) long pier. He was resplendent in his kilt (what man wouldn't be?) standing by his spotless Mercedes sedan equipped with snacks! My husband and I had been to certain areas of Scotland before so we wanted to see as many "new" sights as could be packed into a 7 and a half hour tour. This is what we accomplished with John at the helm: Millionaire's View (breathtaking); The Falls of Shin (too early for the salmon but a beautiful spot regardless); Dunrobin Castle (the Falconry show was my number one priority of the day and it did not disappoint! The castle was fairy tale fabulous, too!); The Royal Dornoch Golf Club (my husband's pilgrimage); Carnegie Whisky Cellars in Dornoch (where we picked up a rare bottle of Scotch for our son); and Culloden Moor (my pilgrimage in honor of my Scots heritage). John was personable yet professional and regaled us with stories and lame jokes appropriate for our grandkids (ha!). We heartily recommend Invergordon Tours and absolutely loved John. You cannot go wrong with them!! If we ever return, reserving a tour with them will be the first item on my to do list!

Not a tour but more of a Taxi service - We booked the Ultimate Dunrobin Castle Tour from our Princess cruise ship on Aug 13, 2019. There was 8 of us in the private tour. Although the itinerary was good, our tour guide was not. I understand that Gavin was overbooked and uses other drivers when overbooked. I can’t remember our driver’s name (that’s how much of an impression he made on me) I believe his name was Farquhar. He was nice enough but really gave us no information while driving. Normally tour guides talk all about where we are visiting, but he did not. It was an hour drive to Dunrobin castle and during that time he never explained anything to us. We stopped at the Millionaires view and he told us to just have a look not really explaining anything. Some of the passengers on the tour, who were sitting up front actually had to ask him questions to get him to talk, otherwise he wouldn’t explain anything, and when he did talk he would not talk loud enough for everyone to hear, so we would have to ask the people in the front what he said, it became a joke as we started calling the passengers in the front the Tour Guide, as she passed on the info to us. As previous mentioned the itinerary was good and the Driver was a nice man, who even recommended a great place to eat. I had arranged the tour and got people to join me through cruise critic. I felt so bad that that it really wasn’t a tour, but a taxi and I felt I had to keep apologizing as it was an expensive taxi ride. Based on the reviews that we read before we left, this was a tour we were really looking forward to. It pains me to not be able to share everyone else's enthusiasm.

Outsourced, which caused problems. - A tough review to write. TL;DR: day was probably a 3.5-4/5, but we were outsourced to Charlie's Taxi Tours and that caused hiccups. Pre-tour, Gavin's e-mail communication was excellent. There were two people in wheelchairs in our party and Gavin adjusted the plan to maximize our day. The night before, Gavin said that our ship's shuttle would drop us at the museum in town and to go there and find our driver-guide, Charlie. Well, Charlie wasn't there. He proactively came to the pier's end and had my wife not spotted him holding a sign with my name, our shuttle would have whizzed by him. We made the shuttle driver stop (neither he nor other pax were pleased) and we got out and were on our way. Charlie (who has his own company, business card, etc.) was knowledgeable and helpful. Suggestion: if you book, book him directly and cut out the middleman.) The thing we found not good about his clean, wi-fi'd vehicle was that the middle row of seats in the 3-3-3 configuration faces backward. "Conference seating" he calls it. Who wants to spend the day facing backward? Not my wife, I'll tell you that! The itinerary was good, esp Dunrobin and the Falconry display and the Falls of Shin. Charlie did make some substitutions without consulting us--and I took grief from a couple tourmates after the fact. I had organised the trip via Cruise Critic, and my tourmates held me responsible. It could even be that the swaps improved our trip (e.g. Balblair Distillery swapped in for Glenmorangie...maybe that's a win, as I expect Balblair is far less 'touristy'... but my companions expected a full tour of Glenmorangie, a name they knew, and wanted to know why I didn't insist). 560 pounds for the day (plus entrance tickets) felt a little big, but if he's outsourcing he's obviously got all the business he can handle. We will book with Charlie directly next time if we see those shores again, and nail down a meeting point and have no one facing backward!
