- Dornoch Firth Viewpoint - The journey begins as soon as you reach the end of the gangway, where your guide will warmly welcome you to the Scottish Highlands. The tour starts with a drive through Invergordon and along the coastal road to Alness, passing the renowned Dalmore Distillery before ascending into the hills through Ardross to one of Scotland’s most breathtaking views (in our opinion).
OPTION: The first stop is the Millionaire’s Viewpoint, as the locals call it, where there will be ample time to capture photos.
-
Falls of Shin - OPTION: The tour descends into the Glen through Bonar Bridge on the way to The Falls of Shin and the Salmon Leap. Atlantic Salmon can often be seen leaping the falls, making their final push toward their birthplace to begin the cycle anew.
-
Dunrobin Castle and Gardens - OPTION: Next, it’s a short drive to Dunrobin Castle & Gardens, a favorite among locals and always a hit with guests. The falconry display is incredible - Andy (The Falconer) has been working with local birds for over 25 years, and his expertise and passion are evident. He’s a fascinating character, and many say it’s the best they’ve seen worldwide. The castle resembles a fairy-tale setting and looks magnificent in the Scottish Highlands. Dunrobin also boasts a uniquely wonderful museum and taxidermy collection.
-
Carn Liath Broch - OPTION: Carn Liath is just a 2-minute drive north of Dunrobin Castle and is an excellent example of a broch – a type of fortification unique to Scotland. It also provides great views of Dunrobin Castle.
-
Dornoch Cathedral - OPTION: The adventure then heads south through Golspie to the Royal Burgh of Dornoch, one of Scotland’s most picturesque villages. It features a stunning golden sandy beach and a world-class golf course, but even without these, it transports you to another era. Highly recommended! The old Jail has been transformed into a shop offering locally made, handcrafted gifts, jewelry, and artworks, perfect for souvenirs. The Cathedral attracts many visitors with its collection of beautiful stained glass windows.
Dornoch is also an excellent place for lunch, offering various options, including a local bakery, a patisserie, a gallery, and our favorite, the Royal Golf Hotel - showcasing Scottish hospitality at its finest, with truly delicious food, catering to all tastes.
- Glenmorangie Distillery - OPTION: The final stop on the itinerary is often a tour and tasting at the world-famous Glenmorangie Distillery, but this is optional, as many people may not be interested in distilleries.
