- Cawdor Castle - Upon entering these historic walls, visitors embark on a captivating audio tour that delves into the castle’s rich history, dating back to at least 1454. Each room echoes with stories of the past — from the refined 16th-century portrait gallery in the drawing room to the opulent 17th-century Flemish tapestries in a bedroom once reserved for nobility. Fine art, antique treasures, and their accompanying tales await at every corner, encouraging guests to linger a bit longer.
After the tour, guests can leisurely explore the diverse gardens. There are also two gift shops and a café on-site. For WOW guests, the café provides a convenient packed or boxed lunch option, perfect for those wanting a takeaway for later. Entrance and an audio guide to Cawdor Castle are included in the tour price.
- Culloden Battlefield - The next destination is Culloden Battlefield, one of the UK’s most significant battlefields. Here, a guide will animate the landscape during a 30-minute walking tour, sharing the gripping story of the last pitched battle on British soil; the Jacobite uprising of 1746. Standing on the windswept moor, it’s easy to envision the courage, sacrifice, and sorrow that occurred here, with echoes of the past resonating in the stillness. The haunting beauty of the landscape, coupled with its tragic history, offers a profoundly moving experience that lingers long after departure.
- Clava Cairns - Clava Cairns is an exceptionally well-preserved Bronze Age cemetery, constructed around 4,000 years ago. The site features a variety of intriguing structures — passage graves, ring cairns, a kerb cairn, and atmospheric standing stones. While the history alone makes this a fascinating stop, it’s also a must-visit for Outlander fans. Diana Gabaldon has described Clava Cairns as the “spiritual home of Craigh na Dun,” and many visitors feel as though they are stepping directly into the world of Claire and Jamie.
- Loch Ness - The next stop is the stunning Dores Beach, located on the serene south shores of Loch Ness — offering one of the most spectacular views in the UK! Visitors can stroll along the pebbled shore and enjoy the breathtaking panorama or, if he’s not on a Nessie-hunting expedition, they might encounter resident monster hunter Steve Feltham, who has been searching for the Loch Ness Monster here for over 30 years and offers some unforgettable souvenirs. There’s also a traditional Scottish pub right on the loch’s edge, where guests can enjoy a local beer or a wee dram of whisky (subject to opening hours).
- Inverness - With its intriguing history, picturesque setting on the River Ness, and a wealth of cosy pubs and unique shops, Inverness exudes its own special charm. Known as the capital of the Highlands, it presents a delightful blend of heritage and vibrancy. In a short walk, visitors can admire the red sandstone Inverness Castle, appreciate the beauty of St Andrew’s Cathedral, and explore the characterful Victorian Market — all while soaking up the lively atmosphere of this welcoming Highland city.
Guests will have approximately one hour to explore here, with slightly less time on tours lasting under eight hours.
