Photographic Glimpse of River Life in Hoi An - Based on the great tour we did with Vietnam in Focus in Hanoi, my husband and I booked a Hoi An River Life tour, and it did not disappoint. Thomas, our guide, met us on time at our hotel and we were transported to the central markets at dawn. I was impressed that Thomas had already read that I had a Sony A7II and brought his Sony camera so explanation would easier. As we started, Thomas pointed out that photography was about creating a visual story which, to be honest, I had not considered as I have concentrated more on capturing images rather than thinking about the bigger picture - pardon the pun. After the markets, we travelled by boat to a fishing village photographing life on the river then witnessing first hand how the fishermen build and maintain their boats. Such a wonderful contrast to the hectic vibe of the markets. Thomas’s guidance with composition was very much appreciated as was his recommendation on lenses. I now have more confidence in exploring the capabilities of my camera as well as challenging my own ability technically and artistically. Thank you Thomas and to the Vietnam in Focus team.
