This tour offers a remarkable opportunity to explore a unique ice cave within the stunning Vatnajökull glacier, the largest ice cap in Europe. Participants will meet at Hali Country Hotel, located 13 km east of Jökulsárlón. A local guide will lead the tour, sharing insights into the region’s history from its early settlement to the present day.

Every autumn, a search is conducted for ice caves to explore during the upcoming winter. These natural formations are created by Mother Nature and are influenced by weather conditions. Some caves require temperatures below freezing or dry weather prior to visiting.

The tour includes a visit to one ice cave, with the best available cave selected based on safety and weather conditions. This selection impacts both the driving and walking times of the tour. The drive to the location can take between 25 to 45 minutes, and the walk to the ice cave can range from 5 to 60 minutes. It’s important to note that the walk takes place in the pristine Icelandic landscape, featuring gravel and rugged terrain.
