Lake Bodom - Ice fishing is one of the most popular traditional Nordic activities in Finland in winter. During this unforgettable experience, in a unique natural setting, I will combine all the chances on our side to fish for fish such as perch, pike or even pike-perch.
We will end this magnificent experience around a fire to taste delicious grilled sausages accompanied by glögi and piparri, the traditional Christmas cookies.

Join me on Lake Bodom, the largest lake in the Helsinki region and just a short 25-minute journey from downtown Helsinki, for an introductory lesson in ice fishing using the Pilkki, a traditional Nordic fishing rod! Once we’ve arrived, we’ll venture out onto the frozen lake to locate the optimum fishing spot. I’ll then guide you through the process of drilling a hole in the ice and mastering the use of the pilkki. After that, the fishing fun begins - get ready to reel in a bounty of fish!
Upon concluding our fishing adventure, we’ll retire to a Laavu, a traditional shelter, where I’ll start a warming fire and cook up some makkara, traditional sausages – with vegetarian alternatives available too. To top it all off, I’ll serve you a nice warming mug of glögi along with piparri, a type of traditional cookie.
