Additional Information

Hauganes Whale Watching is Iceland’s most veteran operator of whale sightseeing tours. We utilize two traditional Icelandic oak vessels which provide ample space and superb stability in the tranquil Eyjafjörður fjord, a haven protected from the rough North Atlantic Ocean. Our tours fall under the category of ‘slow travel’, giving you the opportunity to relish the breathtaking fjord scenery and its wildlife without any rush or disruption to the natural habitats.

Our trips are carbon neutral because for every tour we undertake, we plant a tree, and we mix the fuel with bio-diesel produced in Akureyri (North Iceland’s capital, just a 25-minute drive south from us) using recycled frying oils from local eateries.

Apart from the whale watching, our location houses a restaurant, a campsite, hot tubs beside Sandvik’s black beach, and the renowned beer-spa situated just 5 minutes drive north from us.

Our Whale Watching & Sea Angling tours include sea fishing, which is an absolute must-try for all fishing aficionados!

Great trip! - Fantastic experience! The team knew what they were doing, where to go. Importantly they were also very mindful of the whales themselves & ensuring they didn’t follow them for too long or unsettle them.

Incredible! - Incredible experience! Parking was right in front of the boat. They provided the warmest full body jumpsuit that doubled as a floatation device. If you care deeply about what size you get, then be early (15-20 min) as the smalls were taken quickly. Bring snacks and water! They do provide hot cocoa and a snack but it’s at one time in the middle of the tour. Can you tell I’m a mom yet 😅 We had MANY whale sightings, even right next to the boat. The captain was wonderful and even spent some time telling my youngest (10 yo) about Iceland and some childhood experiences there.

Authentic experience with the gentle giants - The tour was fantastic. The old wooden fishing boat (the oldest in Iceland), a relatively small group and several humpback whales, some of which were very close to the boat. Very nice guides who shared their knowledge in an interesting way. I did the tour twice and would do it again.

Unique! - Very calm atmosphere, the impressions are difficult to describe, this was one of the most emotional moments in Iceland. We stopped taking photos after a short time because we wanted to capture this closeness to the whales unhindered and not through a lens. Whale Watching Hauganes also has a special calm and atmosphere on the boat, no roaring engine when a blast is seen, just the slow chugging of the ship's diesel, the engine turns off and seconds later the whales appear very close to the boat. Unique!!! Top safety equipment!! Few people on the boat, so we could move around freely and always had a good view! I can only recommend this provider!!!! There may be cheaper providers, there may be providers with speedboats, but it doesn't get more authentic than this!

10/10 would recommend! - This was our first time whale watching and it was fantastic! I was a little worried we would be out for awhile before catching a glimpse of the whales. However, they snuck up behind us. Captains were super cool and super knowledgeable about the patterns of the whales. We were able to capture several photos and videos so we will always remember our first experience.

Wale watching and fishing - World class activities always start with the people. Fabulous from start to finish a big shout out to johann and the captain mad us feel safe and like family The physical plant of gear/jumpsuits and ship were completely above expectations The viewing area for the boat to travel was near. The whales were abundant fishing was fun and unexpected catch Only can be rated as 5 star Thank you !
