Conservation - Excellent! The guides are so well versed in protecting this treasure! They are very conscience of the conservation of the habitat and it shows! Pationate for what they do!

Fabulous to watch these sweet little birds coming home! - A good start to this experience was the talk about penguins in the warmth of the Royal Albatross Centre to give us context to what we were about to see. Then, layer up for the outside. We were directed to a viewing platform and told to switch off flash mode on our cameras. You may need to wait a bit before you see rafts of these charming little birds waddle in, then up to their nesting burrows and start to make low moaning sounds. It is quite a sight to behold! Highly recommended, but remember to dress in layers to stay comfortable outside!

A fun experience! - Although we had seen Little Penguins in several locations during our New Zealand birding tour we decided it would be fun to see them waddle up the beach to their burrows in a large group. The evening began up the hill at the Royal Albatross Centre building with an informative talk. While lots of good information was presented, the talk seemed geared toward children although only a few were present. We later walked down the hill to the viewing platform and waited. The first of many large rafts of Little Penguins began to make their way to the shore then waddled quickly up to the dunes and vegetation where they felt safe. Many stood there, interacted and preened themselves before finally heading off to their burrows. By the end of the evening we had seen 180 birds as counted by the staff that evening. It was an altogether fun experience, even for these seasoned world birders.

Excellent Tour of the area to see wading birds & Penguins - Superb tour of the Ortago Peninsula to see native wading birds, topped off by a visit to the penguin & Albatross centre. A short, interesting talk was given on arrival before heading down to platforms to wait for the blue penguins to come in. Well worth the wait, and the team swapped the group around so everyone had a different aspect as they arrived. Excellent visit overall, and I would recommend this trip to anyone. Wrap up as it can get cold & remember they are wild - you have to wait for them. The number of penguins does depend on the time of year, so do your research beforehand.

Amazing Dunedin Experience! - So amazing! We saw over 200 blue penguins and even a few chicks. At 2 pounds, they were adorable and so fun to watch emerge out of the ocean. Your ticket purchase supports this ecological preserve, so it’s all for a good cause.

Lovely way to see the little Blue Penguins - Have visited a few different penguin conservations but this was an especially good way to see the little blue penguins. I particularly liked the fact that you are at a nice distance and can’t interfere with their natural actions but can view them from a safe distance. Be prepared to sit for a while in the cold sea air during the evening - dress warmly and it might be worth having a blanket for your legs - it can be chilly. Also, please be prepared to be quiet!! The penguins can be spooked by loud noises and will retreat. Noise, like the chatter and squeals of over excited visitors who can’t follow simple instructions (always a few numpties about). Despite a few loud buffoons, this was a lovely excursion. Decent facilities for less able bodied. Really knowledgeable staff who clearly care about the penguins and are passionate about their wellbeing and conservation. Overall it was a brilliant way to spend an evening and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
