Foodies rejoice! - Foodies rejoice! A hands on cooking class with so many delightful moments. First we went through the local market to buy and try ingredients. Then off to the chefs’ training school ‘on location’ in the middle of a local residential community. It was like walking onto the set of a cooking show, but with a homely environment surrounding it. Chef Hung Pickles was brilliant to work with. Professional, skilled and personable. All the dishes were local specialties that were mouthwateringly delicious. We were taught many tips and tricks including making our own rice noodles. Over all a very memorable and worthwhile experience. Highly recommend!

A true taste of local food and culture! - I love cooking for family and friends, and especially with new foods and approaches learned from traveling to different countries. I signed up for a Vietnamese Cooking class, while my friend went on a tour. I was very fortunate to have Chef Pickle, with his passion and humor, as my teacher for this class at Butterfly. We made several dishes: beef Pho, crispy pork egg roll, papaya salad, and seasoned pork meatballs and grilled pork with herb and vegetables (the Obama favorite). After getting the beef bones flash boiled to clean and seasoned stock started, we headed to market where Chef Pickle lead us through the local delicacies like sour apple, fresh sea worms, and crispy BBQ pork belly! He gave us tastes of different things while browsing the market. It was a blast and a true taste of local culture! Back at the restaurant we all participated in the preparation of the dishes, while being coached by Chef, then settled down to enjoy our feast. It was all amazing and I couldn’t wait to try the recipes and the techniques once home.

Great cooking class with market tour - We had a great time in this cooking class. One of the highlights was going through the local market and picking out fresh ingredients. We mentioned that we love banh xeo, and our instructor was incredibly accommodating and adjusted the class so we could make it. We also learned how to make pho and fresh spring rolls, everything was delicious and clearly explained step by step. Highly recommend this class to anyone visiting Hanoi who wants a hands-on, authentic food experience.

Market tour and Cooking Class with Tien - The market tour and cooking class was exceptional. Tien took us through the Old Market and explained the many foods with delicious tastings along the way. Then we were guided step by step to prepare 4 dishes. Pho, spring rolls, green mango salad and Bun Cha. Finally we sat down to enjoy eating these amazing dishes and have a drink together. The cost was approximately $52 USD and the experience lasted 3 1/2 - 4 hours. I highly recommend this tour. Judy.

Great experience ! Highly recommend! - My chef's nickname was pickle ! I went to the cooking class on my birthday. He was amazing. Very kind, knowledgeable, hands on & helpful. He taught me how to properly cut my ingredients which is definitely a plus because i can cook but my knife skills have always been bad. He makes sure everyone participates & makes everyone feel included. If u have questions abour food in the market or in general he explains it to u.This was my fav tour so far. He sung happy birthday & gave me a cake at the end. Thank u for making me feel special. My fav meal was the chicken bun cha. I don't eat pork or beef so he adjusted my meals accordingly. I'm very appreciative of him. Please go to his class you won't regret it.

Excellent. 4 course, easy menu, cooking class with a tour of the food markets - If anyone wants to enjoy cooking, and learn a bit more about Vietnamese ingredients and cooking tips, Chef Hung (Mr Pickle) is FANTASTIC. I personally don’t like cooking but loved this class! Hung made it really cool, informative, and fun. And the walking trip out and around the market was SO good: showing us all kinds of foods. Very highly recommended. Note : I joined solo, 3 others joined too. Sharp knives involved so recommend +13yrs if you’re a family doing this.

Pick this cooking class! - We had a great time this morning going to the market with chef Hung and gathering the ingredients for our food and class. He identified and explained what the many market items were and how the Vietnamese used them. He then took us to the restaurant where we had fun preparing and cooking our 4 courses. He is a good teacher and was very encouraging to each of us. Best of all - the food was amazing!
