5 Star experience with Tommy and team - Tommy as our tour guide made our day trip to Ha Long Bay an enjoyable and memorable experience. It was a long day 12 hours trip from start to finish. But having Tommy as our guide he made the trip fun. He was thorough and patience in explaining everything to us. I would recommend Tommy team to anyone looking for a tour guide in Hanoi. Our trip was worth every penny.

Best boat trip I’ve ever been on. - Fantastic day out. Everything well organised. Our guide Tommy was excellent. Beautiful place altogether 👌🏻 We went by bus to Ha Long bay then took the cruise all around the island. Kayaking and jet skiing. Then through the caves amazing.

Awesome Ha Long Bay - An excellent day trip to give you a good overview of Ha Long Bay if you don’t have the time to stay overnight. Our guide was fun and very knowledgeable. Boat was good with excellent food. A great tour of the magnificent Ha Long Bay. No complaints at all.

As quiet and intimate a Ha Long Bay experience as you're likely to get without a fully private tour - I expected Ha Long bay to disappoint - not in terms of its natural beauty, but in terms of being completely overrun with tourists, and large boats. In part I got lucky by going outside of the main international tourist season, but visiting with Tommy Excursions definitely helped. The group size is limited to the capacity of the buses they use - about 17 people if I recall correctly. We did join up with other groups on the boat (the boat we were on would accommodate perhaps 4 groups of that size, although there was only one other group the day I visited). But the stops en route are organised by individual group, which means you're only dealing with crowds at a small number of bottleneck points. It is also a 6 hour cruise, where some of the day trips from Hanoi only offer 4. Pickup at my hotel in the Old Quarter went smoothly. The stop at the pearl farm was unexpected - it wasn't listed on the itinerary when I booked, and it wasn't something I was particularly keen to do, but it was more interesting than I had expected - it was ultimately a sales pitch and shopping opportunity, but we were also shown the process used to inoculate oysters to produce cultured pearls, which was worth the visit. On the cruise, I opted for the kayaking, and loved it. The stop is long enough for a relaxed row around a picturesque bay. The visit to the "Surprise" cave involved a slow progress in a long queue to get to the entrance, and through the first cave, but once it opened out into the main section the crowds thinned right out. It is a spectacular cave, and more than makes up for the minor inconvenience of getting in. The only part that was unpleasantly crowded was the swimming stop at Ti Top island. I actually had a nice time - the beach was crowded, as was the shallow water, but barely a handful of people were swimming out past standing depth. Our guide Willy was informative, and got us through all of our stops in good time, but without feeling rushed, and Tommy himself was on the boat and offered to take a souvenir photo of me as I was on my own. All in all, if you only have time for a day trip to Ha Long, this is a great option.
