Start your adventure at the breathtaking Cawfields Quarry, where volcanic rock meets the historic Hadrian’s Wall. After a warm welcome, you’ll receive a Bug-Out Bag and face your first task: choosing what to pack for the journey ahead.
Your guide will then lead you through the quarry’s stunning landscape, explaining how years of quarrying have shaped both the scenery and the Wall.
Activity Level: Easy – mostly flat terrain.
- Cawfields Roman Wall - Hadrian’s Wall Path – Hole Gap to Turret 41B:
Join your guide through Hole Gap onto one of the most famous sections of the Hadrian’s Wall Path, passing ancient milecastles and turrets. As you approach the ‘safe zone,’ the survival scenario unfolds, immersing you in an apocalyptic challenge.
Work as a team to complete practical tasks that test your skills in navigating without GPS, communicating with other survivors, and building a signal before time runs out.
Along the way, your guide will weave together fiction and history, drawing comparisons between your survival mission and how Roman soldiers once patrolled and communicated along this distant edge of the empire.
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate – about 1 mile with regular stops, one steeper climb via stone steps, and some uneven terrain.
- Cawfields Roman Wall - Turret 41B – Rest Stop:
Take a break at one of Hadrian’s Wall’s best-preserved turrets, offering panoramic views across the Roman vallum and the expansive Northumberland landscape—once the edge of the empire, now your imagined survival route.
As you rest, rehydrate, and refuel, your guide will share stories of Roman lookout life, the role of these small watchtowers, and the Wall’s impressive engineering—revealing how people once stood guard against the unknown, scanning the horizon for signs of danger.
Activity Level: Easy – seated rest stop.
- Cawfields Roman Wall - Roman Military Way & Vallum – Tactics in the Landscape:
Your return journey follows the Roman Vallum and Military Way—once patrolled by soldiers, now the setting for your next survival challenge. Along the way, you’ll engage in lighthearted tactical tasks designed to test your zombie instincts: estimating distances, making quick group decisions, and outsmarting imagined threats in the landscape around you.
As you proceed, your guide will explain how Roman patrols once used this route to monitor, manage, and respond to danger along the Wall. Expect a few short filming moments (optional, of course), that will be part of the Highlight reel.
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate – approximately 1 mile with regular stops. Includes short, low-intensity tasks, uneven terrain, and two stile crossings.
- Cawfield Quarry - The Crags – Claim the High Ground:
Ascend the most westerly walkable section of Hadrian’s Wall for your final challenge—and an unforgettable photo. This dramatic ridge offers sweeping views across the wild frontier once patrolled by Roman sentries, now imagined as the setting for your last stand in a post-apocalyptic world. It’s the perfect cinematic backdrop for the closing scene of a survival film.
Prefer to avoid the climb? Take the gentler lakeside path to the meeting point, where your guide will capture your finale photo with the quarry rising behind you.
Activity Level: Moderate – short but steep climb with uneven terrain. Caution advised on the descent.
