Owakudani, created around 4,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption, is one of Hakone’s renowned tourist attractions. Once called “Hell Valley” due to its toxic fumaroles and boiling pools, it was renamed Owakudani after Emperor Meiji’s visit in 1876.

Here, you can sample the local delicacy: Kuro-tamago (Black Eggs), boiled in sulfuric hot springs. Legend has it that consuming one egg adds seven years to your life. The eggs turn black due to a chemical reaction between the hot spring’s sulfur and iron.

  Enoshima is a historic island rich in myths, shrines, and vibrant local culture. A legend speaks of a celestial maiden who descended to tame an evil dragon, and since the Edo period, the island has been a favored pilgrimage destination.
  Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise Street: Cross Enoshima Bridge, pass through the bronze torii gate, and wander along this bustling 200-meter shopping street filled with eateries, snack stalls, and souvenir shops.
  Enoshima Shrine: With a history spanning over 1,500 years, the shrine honors three sister goddesses of fortune and is believed to bestow visitors with wealth, success, and love.
  Chūtsu Shrine: Known for its vivid red hall, Edo-period stone lanterns, and ceiling paintings of flowers and birds. A serene spot for purification and contemplation.
