The Kilimanjaro journey kicks off at Machame Gate, where registration is completed and the team of guides and porters is introduced. The initial day’s trek leads through the lush rainforest, renowned for its vibrant plant life and towering trees. Spanning approximately 11 kilometers, the trail ascends steadily, allowing for full immersion in the forest’s beauty. By evening, Machame Camp is reached, situated at around 3,000 meters, where rest is taken for the night.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Kilimanjaro National Park - Following a hearty breakfast, the rainforest is left behind as the scenic moorland is entered. Day 2’s trail is about 5 kilometers, and as the climb progresses, panoramic views of Mount Meru and the surrounding plains are revealed. Shira Camp, located at 3,800 meters, provides a stunning vantage point to appreciate the mountain’s wilderness.

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Kilimanjaro National Park - This day emphasizes acclimatization, ascending to the Lava Tower, a significant elevation gain reaching 4,600 meters. The terrain becomes more rugged while hiking through the alpine desert. After reaching Lava Tower, a gradual descent to Barranco Camp, situated at around 3,960 meters, follows. This day covers about 10 kilometers and is crucial for preparing the body for the altitude.

Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Machame - The day begins with the exhilarating challenge of climbing the Barranco Wall. Once this impressive feature is conquered, trekking continues across undulating terrain before heading to Barafu Camp, located at 4,600 meters. This is a shorter hike, approximately 7 kilometers, but it prepares for the final ascent to the summit. Barafu Camp marks the last stop before the summit attempt, with excitement building for the challenge ahead.

Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and down to Mweka Camp

Machame - Summit day starts in the early hours, with a steep and demanding trek to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point at 5,895 meters. The summit is reached in time for a spectacular sunrise, celebrating the achievement at the top of Kilimanjaro. After enjoying the breathtaking views, the long descent to Mweka Camp, located at about 3,100 meters, begins. The total distance for this day is around 18 kilometers, making it one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of the trek.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Machame - The final day leads from Mweka Camp back down to Mweka Gate, descending through the lush rainforest zone. Covering about 10 kilometers, this descent offers time to reflect on the incredible journey. Upon arrival at the gate, a summit certificate is received, and farewells are bid to the team of guides and porters, marking the end of the Kilimanjaro adventure.
