Dambulla received its World Heritage site status in 1991. The caves are enriched with a blend of religious and secular art and sculpture. Ascend a rock - for those physically fit and without the need for breaks, you can reach the top in under 30 minutes. However, if you desire frequent stops for rest, photos or to appreciate the scenery, the whole journey up and down can take between 1.5 to 2 hours.
