Deep knowledge and sincere love and commitment to culture, history and sustainability makes Marlon and Gem Tours the bes - We loved our visit to Tikal and Uaxactun with Marlon. We learned so much and gained special insights that added so much to our enjoyment of this experience. We used Gem Tours for seamless transit to and from Belize City to Tikal. Marlon Diaz met us at our hotel at 4:20 am for a really early morning hike for a sunrise experience. Thoughtfully, Marlon brought coffee and breakfast snacks that we enjoyed through the morning. The counsel to enjoy the silence and quiet - until to roar of howling monkeys and birdsongs. We spent the morning exploring other sights. What is also special about Marlon is his knowledge and appreciation of the natural environment - birds, wild creatures, trees, jungle flora. So rich. The next day, a real highlight, Marlon picked us up in his new (and maybe only one in the area) electric car, for a journey to Uaxactun. This was such a special experience to visit the much less crowded site and spend time exploring (and a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant with an award winning chef) this remarkable area. Marlon is a wonderful guide, an inspirational voice and committed citizen for protections and sustainable visitation of the area. Our visit was elevated to a "best ever" category because of our guidance and friendship with Marlon

Nice trip - It is nice, waiting up early is the hardest part the walk a lot and go upstairs a little challenging, however it is worth it. The sunrise will depend of weather, since it is foggy or cloudy you would not see much. After that the day was with a lot of sun. A lot of fun

The Best Tikal Tour - Marlon is an absolutely phenomenal tour guide and the best possible person to be your guide through Tikal. He is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the ruins and was able to answer detailed questions about Mayan history, culture, and architecture, as well as the flora and fauna of the jungle. He identified and pointed out all sorts of birds, animals, and plants throughout the tour that other groups walked straight past. The homemade breakfast picnic on the temple for sunrise seemed truly unique, and provided multiple food options while we had the temple entirely to ourselves to watch (and hear!) the jungle come to life at dawn. He offered clear, timely communication both before and during the tour as I worked with him to set up a custom itinerary for my family's specific needs. And although he had already sent a detailed schedule ahead of time, he also gave us a step-by-step run through that morning to remind us of our timeline and what all we could expect throughout the day. Additionally, he went truly above and beyond his responsibilities when my dad fell ill part way through the tour. He found a place for him to lie down, bought him electrolytes, brought him herbal tea with medicinal properties and a cold wet cloth, and even checked in with us the following day to ask how he was doing. His vehicle is a new, electric SUV with strong A/C, spacious seating, and good suspension. All of which made for a far more comfortable experience than the shared vans. I would absolutely tour with Marlon again, and have recommended him to everyone I've met in Guatemala who has yet to finalize their Tikal plans. Marlon at Gem Tours is truly the best.

Great tour of Tikal - Marlon was a wonderful guide. We had a great experience and learned a lot about the park, flora and fauna, Mayan history and current and past archaeological efforts. Though we had already spent an entire day exploring the same sites on our own, having an expert guide the second time around greatly deepened our appreciation and understanding of this ancient place. On the Sunrise tour we were able to see lots of wildlife as well which was really special. Highly recommended.

Like an epic field trip with your favorite professor - This was our favorite part of our trip to Guatemala! Of course, Tikal is amazing and you should go, so I won't talk about the site itself but about how great this tour was. Our guide, Marlon, was so incredibly knowledgeable about the many layers of history and ecology surrounding Tikal. It was like taking a private, graduate-level seminar with the best professor. We really appreciated how he engaged us in conversations so we could learn about the parts that interested us the most, plus, he knew the site so well that we were able to cover basically everything during our visit.

A great day out. - We had an amazing day with Marlon. He was king, helpful and very knowledgeable. One of our group had a slight disability walking long times and he took this into account. Highly recommended.

Wonderful sunrise experience in Tikal!! - This was a great trip! Marlon was our guide and he did a great job of explaining everything and keeping us entertained. He is very knowledgeable and was able to answer any question we had. I booked this trip with my daughter and brother and there were only 2 other people joining us for the tour (total group size of 5). Having the small group made this trip so much better. This wasn’t my first trip to Tikal, but it was my first with a tour guide. I now wish I did my previous trips with Marlon! While we didn’t get to see the sunrise because of the fog, we loved sitting on the pyramid listening to the wildlife wake up. Marlon even took us back to the same spot at the end of the trip so we wouldn’t miss out on the view from above. There were plenty of snacks for us and a lunch at the end. No one in the group ever felt hungry. Everything about this trip was great. If I ever do another trip to Tikal, it will definitely be with Marlon and Gem Trips

The first sunrise of 2025 - The guide Roberto was so nice and studious that he answered all the questions we asked him. His English was easy to catch up with as well! The only thing we think was pity was that we could not see the sunrise due to the climate but it was a breathtaking and unforgiving experience all the same when you hear the roar of jungle waking up with wild animals!! Of course it is not his fault, but it depends on your luck whether you could enjoy the sunrise.
