Highly recommend this tour, especially with Daniel as your guide!! - Our guided tour of the British Museum with Daniel was absolutely outstanding and one of the best museum experiences we’ve ever had. Daniel was an incredible wealth of knowledge and what stood out most was how genuinely passionate he was about the history, artifacts and stories he shared. You could immediately tell that he truly cared about the subject matter, which made the entire tour engaging from start to finish. What was especially impressive was Daniel’s ability to keep the tour flowing seamlessly while still taking the time to thoughtfully answer questions along the way. He balanced structure and spontaneity perfectly while sticking to a well-organized plan while making every question feel welcomed and worthwhile. Navigating a museum as large and overwhelming as the British Museum could easily feel chaotic, but Daniel guided us through it in a way that felt logical, immersive and easy to follow. His storytelling, depth of knowledge and ability to connect everything together made the museum come alive in a way we never could have experienced on our own. We left with a far greater appreciation for both the museum and the history behind its collections. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Daniel as your guide!!

YOU WILL BE VERY GLAD TO GET THIS TOUR WITH THIS GUIDE - You absolutely need to get a qualified guide like "Joey" for your first visit to the British museum and it would be a good idea to have a guide like him for any follow-up visits on more specialized subjects. An ENORMOUS amount of material to stuff into your head, it's not practical just to walk in the door and start looking. Our tour started on time in the incredible Egyptian section and included various galleries for Mesopotamian, Greek, Roman, Easter Island, Central America and Sutton Hoo. Joey kept us oriented and moving. He was patient with my many questions and even let me show off a little of my trivial knowledge. For me a high point was right at the beginning when Joey began his first lecture next to a replica of the Rosetta Stone (the real one is under glass nearby) that you can touch! I had a previous visit to the Crown Jewels, and this moment was FAR more stirring for me. The jewels are a collection of crystallized coal, and somebody might dig up some more, but there has been only one Rosetta Stone ever and it was the key to our understanding of Ancient Egypt. Joey explained that the engraved proclamation was about some quite prosaic political graft. I had been waiting over 50 years to see this, and I later bought the descriptive book from the museum shop, Priority One. Joey also took us to view the Elgin Marbles (and later Mexican artifacts) and to listen to a brief summary of the ethical questions plaguing the Museum on the artifacts which were removed from other countries under unethical means (by modern standards). Now there are wonderful artifacts which have been preserved (probably much better than in their countries of origin), studied by experts from around the world (except for persons in the native land) and exhibited for the enlightenment and delight of millions of visitors -- except for the persons whose countries originally owned them. Saved? Stolen? Keep? Return? Joey had to improvise a small part of the tour due to an unexpected closure of one gallery. He took us to one exhibit of a Roman cup, looked nice but nothing really special, until he pointed out that by established technological history this cup should not exist in this form. The cup displays two different colors according to the direction of the viewer to light on the translucent surface. Sort of a polarized light effect, but we "know" that the Romans of this time did not have such technology. But there it is. Joey did not include the infamous story of the Portland vase in the tour, but he indicated that the vase would be in Room 70 (I found it later, its placard tells only part of the story). While our tour group transited the Levant artifacts, I noticed an exhibit with a strange name. After the tour I wandered back to this exhibit and discovered a kingdom in eastern Turkey and Armenia, concurrent with the Assyrians, which I had never heard of. I then blundered around the Museum until my daughter's legs and then my legs gave out a few hours later. There were tons of stuff everywhere, too many to visit without a guide. My brain felt more tired than my legs. I had only one problem with the tour and that was with VIATOR not inserting the actual tour ticket into my Apple wallet like all the other tour tickets that I got by booking through Viator. All of those five tour tickets WORKED GREAT. Then there was VIATOR verbiage about their museum tour voucher not being valid for entry, but the actual ticket would be issued on the day before the tour by the provider. My tour was Monday, and Sunday is not a good business day for resolving concerns. In a convoluted process I finally made a PDF copy of the ticket, but I wasn't sure if it was proper. Things worked out but this business of having to wait for the actual ticket from a third party at the last moment caused me a huge amount of unnecessary confusion and stress. You may call me a technological cave man, but my daughter is a Millennial and she KNOWS tech and even she couldn't figure it out. Please fix this.

Decent overview - Our guide was knowledgeable but we found the attempts at humorous delivery of the material didn’t really enhance the experience and some of the stories and anecdotes were a bit long. A decent tour of the main exhibits overall.
